Description
Loon on Old Woman Lake in Lake Superior Provincial Park in Northern Ontario Canada. This Loon remained almost motionless for some time as if watching the sun come up.Related content

Of course this subject is one of my favorites. Overall there is a wonderful calm mood. The bird is not obviously on alert, just cruising slowly, raising very little wake. The pollen on the water gives this a little sparkle.
The lighting is fantastic! Natural lighting can be very tricky to capture, especially when there's water involved.

You may be able to correct or minimize this a little with some careful digital editing, but it would be so easy to overdo it, I almost advise against it.
This is the only portion that is noticably out of focus [and not much!], the back and markings are clear and crisp.
My main crit here is the composition. You're halfway there - the bird is offset nicely from center, in the horizontal, but he/she is dead center on the vertical. I would suggest cropping this piece so the waterline [where the bird rests on the water] appears in the lower third of the composition. This will help anchor the photo visually by 'weighting' the bottom.

Love this loon and the story that goes along with it. Seems like this beautiful bird and I both have the same idea about mornings - to just be still before our awesome Creator and rest in the wonder of a new day with Him.

I really love this photo. The reflection of the loon is so clear, I love how you can see all the sparkles (I think?) on the surface, and I love loons so this was a rare treat for me. The whole picture conveys peace and I don't know about others, but I would have loved to have been there. In terms of critiques, perhaps the loon could be in sharper focus and the colours could be a little stronger, but otherwise I love it. Hope that helps

I have requested that this photo receive critiques. I would like to know why it doesn't get respect. Of all my photos I think this one may mean the most to me. I know it's simple, plain maybe. Perhaps it's that I was there and you weren't. Help me out here, tell me whats wrong with this photo.
