WalkinginDreamlight In reply to Leucareth [2013-12-02 09:39:14 +0000 UTC]

So then - what has turned you off the delight and magic of Christmas?

Is it possible not even a Disney Christmas movie, or a even a Hallmark Christmas classic can bring you back to the merriment of the year?

I didn't think people like you really existed outside of a Dickens' A Christmas Carol

Leucareth In reply to WalkinginDreamlight [2013-12-02 09:57:16 +0000 UTC]

World poverty and corporate greed are what put me off christmas.  I'm afraid i see it just as another way the rich can squeeze money from the poor that they don't really have.  With this current government being as ruthless as they are, this year more than ever i feel it, i think of the homeless out in the cold and the poor people getting into masses of debt because the powers that be have convinced them this is a day you need to spend lots of money on or your depriving your children and loved ones.

So i say baaa humbug to it, i enjoy lots of special days with my family and give gifts when i feel like giving a gift......not on a certain day because people tell me to

bet you wished you'd never asked now lol

All very valid points that you have raised

And yes, I agree entirely

For me, Christmas is not the idea of gifts...it is something more pure, and that is love of family, and carols and Christmas lights, which for me represent a harbour of light in ever darkening times...both metaphorically, and physically.

My purest enjoyment from Christmas, comes not from the day itself (which is very nice), but the Eve before, when I'm awake, and the world around me sleeps, and I look out at the stars (sipping a mug of Bovril) and connect with the true meaning and energy and soul of Christmas.

Christmas is not all about greed and presents (because people have the free will, not to let that happen to themselves). It has a very bright soul and musical energy that is unlike anything I have ever experienced before. And I believe that Christmas Eve holds such a special form of energy that many people choose to sleep through...I can't really describe it better than that, except to say that this is when I feel ultimate peace and serenity

Did you know, that a very long time ago (pagan times, if not before), Christmas was seen as a Festival of Light and a pinnacle of hope and community, and love, in the long months of dark winter.

This can always be the way of seeing Christmas, outside of the greed, and expensive gifts.

You just have to see and feel it

I'm glad I asked

Ah not feeling it i'm afraid, just feeling lots of stressed people and on the other hand lots of greedy people.  They do have a choice but not many will opt out of the financial black hole that occurs this time of year.  I feel more at one with everything when its less manic

I do agree that a light in the deepest darkest months is a good thing, i think you'll find the pagans celebrated the winter solstice which is the 21st only Christianity and Mithraism celebrate on the 25th (that i know of) and my feelings toward religion is even worse than my feeling toward chistmas lol.

I will concede to you that the lights look pretty though and are quite cheery

.........Bovril!!!!! Uuuuugggghhhh
