Ah, now that is fabulous. I think I have been there, Charlestown in Cornwall?

Is this with the new kit, Linda? - Ah - yes I see the 650D mentioned! What a dramatic rendering - detail, texture, colour toning and contrasts, and with only +/- 1 stop exposure - flies in the face of some conventional wisdom.
Great Stuff.

Linda, there is a school of thought in HDR photography that holds that 5 shots are the minimum, preferably 7, at 1 stop intervals (Nightingale's book). However, when I have tried this I did not notice any significant difference in most circumstances, and Canons only do 3 shot bracketing up to +/- 2 stops. Thus a tripod and time are needed. Where there can be a difference is if you have a small bright light source, then 5 shots can tweak detail in that source.

I've been thinking this over, Linda, and in my experience a couple of "rules of thumb" have emerged . First, if the dynamic range of a scene is less than the dynamic range of the camera, about the dynamic range of the camera, or only slightly greater than the dynamic range, then three images at 0 and +/- 2 stops would be adequate (i.e. -2, 0, and +2 stops). This is the default HDR setting if you like. Second, if the scene is substantially above the dynamic range of the camera, then a minimum of 5 images with 0 and +/- 3 stops would be better than the default. How you space those images is up to personal taste/experience. But, then you are clearly into tripod country. For excessive testing how about 11 shots? ==> [link]
