The nine years in which 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic' ran sadly plagued it with a number of missed opportunities, with one of the biggest being the return of Spike's huge monstrous form from 'Secret of My Excess' as a combatant going up against an equally huge threat to one or more of the mane six or any and all locals. And an ideal candidate for the role of said threat would've been a cyclops just like the one who reduced Griffinstone to the cynically portrayed state seen in 'The Lost Treasure of Griffinstone'. As far as I'd like to imagine, at least part of the choreography of that hypothetical (not to mention epic) battle (which would've left Twilight and other ponies watching it in awe), wouldn't have been too far off from the fight between 'The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad''s own cyclops and dragon a.k.a. one of the best scenes Ray Harryhausen ever animated:

Certainly, with its fantasy setting, and menagerie of mythical creatures, the show was in hindsight, perfect for paying homage to Ray or having an episode that was a love letter to him and his influential work. Especially given that season 4 premiered the same year he died.
