so i remember a while back Lopoddity made a status update talking about starlight glimmer and i may have liked the idea a little too much to just let it go. so i'm creating my own au, yey! full credit to lop for the idea of course.

1. since i like playing with canon character designs, here's the au's redesign for starlight (dunno if i'll stick with it). she's a lot more self-concious about using the staff at first (and it shows) since it is an actual, powerful artifact. while at that, i changed the staff's design too.
it's not the cutie marks she hates, but the magic behind them and magic in general as she sees it dividing others. it started with sunburst leaving her (and quite possibly completly ignoring her letters), but the older she got, the more she noticed the inequality between unicorns and the races that couldn't freely use magic. and so her raise to being a cult leader started.

she didn't want to get rid of magic at first, just create a safe space without the mistreatment. and so, she started gathering followers - it wasn't easy and nobody really joined her until she actually gotten a place where she could create such asylum. then, one person joined with a tiny bit of manipulation from starlight - just fueling the negative feelings about unicorns acting like they are better. soon she found out that she could easily exploit those negative emotions to gather people at her side.

and so it was all going nicely, just earth ponies and pegasi living together away from those bad unicorns. somewhere at that time starlight got the staff - one of her followers has gotten their hooves on it, because they thought it would work in their favour. starlight started researching it (she wasn't going to ambush some poor unicorn and accidently kill them, it would ruin their village's image!) and sometime later... sugar belle showed up. a unicorn born to a family of earth ponies, who saw first hand what mistreatment they could go through. her siblings spread around equestria after their parents' death and she heard about their village, and somehow found her way there.
it took some time, but starlight coaxed sugar belle to let her use the staff on her to test it. sugar didn't die, but the effect was to starlight's liking. with time, she started using it with more confidence, she also has been reasearching more and more. everything has been going well, untill...

2. twilight showed up! their first meeting plays out mostly like in the show. the real change is when they meet the second time with all the going back in time stuff. twi realizes that there needs to be change and ends up talking starlight into helping her with changing equestria. i'll write more about it if anyone finds this intresting.

3. not much to say, starlight apologizing to her old village, mainly sugar belle, who stepped up to become the village's chief after starlight got kicked out. sugar says she won't forget and she can't forgive, especially that she still agrees with a lot of starlight's more... mellow views about equality, the ones not involving stripping others of their magic.

4. literally just a self insert lol. i decided to put pandemonium into this au. here we have one of non-unicorn students showing off that she can channel magic through her hooves. demo is proud, the kid is happy, twi is impressed. im not sure what (canon) character would be to first be able to use magic, but i want to work on it.
