We stood there in the rain, looking into each others eyes as the roar of the engine from the airship drowned out all but the moment we were in. I knew this day would come; it was only a matter of time. We'd spent the last two months aboard an airship together, adventuring, getting in and out of scraps with local governments and taking quite a bit of private time with one another. Yet, this was the end, it seemed. 'Kiss me,' she said. "Kiss me as if it were the last time.' With that we embraced in an embrace that could have shattered the world asunder for all we cared at that moment. She looked at me with those baby blues and whispered softly, 'But what about us?' 'We'll always have Paris,' was my only response as I looked back to my airship, its engines in full swing, ready to depart. 'I've got a job to do, too. Where I'm going, you can't follow. What I've got to do, you can't be any part of,' I said as I stepped away from her for a moment. 'Someday you'll understand that. Now, now... Here's looking at you kid.' She reached behind her dainty neck and unclasped a necklace she kept hidden beneath her blouse, lifting it and enclosing it in my hand. With that, I turned and left.
