lol this movie is sort of my introduction to body horror (or was it Parasite Eve?).
TheΒ THING is such a fun movie. I still can't find another movie that has better practical effects.

Dude it's just AMAZING seeing how it was all made!
Such a shame the studio behind the prequel had their practical effects cut from the actual film. I've never fully finished it simply because of that -_-

I didn't even try to watch the Prequel thanks to the fact they nuked the practical stuff.
Then again, for what I heard the Prequel makes the Thing creature into a idiot. It reveals itself unnecessarily just to back in more action and jump scares. The exact opposite of a cunning alien beast it was in the original...
That is enough to ruin my interest in the whole movie.

You are missing NOTHING...believe me.
I would have been a happier man without seeing that "Thing" = P

Yeah, I picked on it being horrible waste of time pretty quick. Most 80's movie remakes/reboots/whateverthefucks are usually utter garbage.

Aaaand the fact that the moment they put a girl on the lead you knew she was going to be spared really ruined that movie.
At least to me...it was soooo obvious that she was going to escape...
On this one there were no chance in hell for any of the survivors, that's a great ending!

People are still doing unnecessary debates to this day about that ending lol

The best part is the ending....most likely both were no longer humans....and in time a rescue team will come to see what happened ) = )

I like to think it too....as a matter of fact I prefer them both to be Human at the end...and they survive the long night and storm by eating roasted "Thing" and using the (nearly completed) UFO that the doc built with parts from the Helo, not to fly out there, but as a power source for heat,an Igloo will take care of the shelter part.
Roasted "thing"...I bet it tastes like chicken = )

Wonder did anything survive MacReady's dynamite rampage anyway. He pretty much sacrificed the whole base and himself to stop the Thing.

The movie does not show,he is the type to go all out never stopping to think about later.
But when "later" arrives his kind always find a way.

The best scifi horror film ever.

Agreed. The setting is perfect for setting up a believable isolation, the creature might just be the most terrifying thing to ever exist in fiction and the paranoia... Oh god, the paranoia.

Oh yeah, I remember reading that. Interesting perspective for sure.
I personally like to think The Thing is just a bestially cunning alien fauna that was being transported by the aliens who build the spaceship that is found buried inside the ice. The Thing somehow managed to get loose while being transported and assimilated most of the alien crew with the last alien that remained going MacReady on the Thing's ass by crash landing the ship and sealing the monster away in the permafrost.
