Mid Summer's Eve

This started off as a simple pen sketch of a scarecrow during a boring uni lecture. The next thing I knew I was scanning and colouring in the piece to enter myself into an arts contest of the same title theme, on [link] , an overseas Chinese forum.

With it, I was trying to capture the mood of a quiet summer night, with the long grass and fireflies in the foreground. Unfortunately, didn't manage to place at all in the contest, however it did end up as a birthday card to friends and family that year.
