The red aura is a little odd. Anything particular behind that choice?

She'll usually pick a color used heavily in the piece, make a layer under all the others that's slightly bigger than the line art, flood it with that color, then blur it. It helps sets the figure and background apart and keep your attention on the character in pieces like this, since trying to replicate depth-of-field properly in a drawing can be a bitch.
