Before they had de-networked all of their systems, those specialists had connected with enemy computers directly, allowing them to use their superior meta-cognitive processors to sweep through most firewalls in a blink of an eye, subverting enemy systems
. It had been such an important tactical and strategic capability, important enough that they couldn’t lose it, even with their fear of being subverted themselves. At the same time, they couldn’t continue on as before, a rogue centurion with active wireless systems could become a disaster if they gained access to any of their systems.
The solution had been simple. Those specialist no longer connected directly. Instead they carried a portable computer containing a MCP core, doing all the cyber warfare for them. ....
They had found a terminal, and through it, a hardline direct into the baseships networks. The specialists red eyes stopped sweeping back and forth, focusing solely on the display in front of them.
