I suspect that Jack Kirby was influenced by a number of theatrical sources when he developed the Marvel version of the Norse god Loki. I am sure that Kirby admired the 1930's film "The Tower of London". The movie was a retelling of the gruesome career of Richard III of England. Richard was played by Basil Rathbone who is best remembered for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes. I don't think that Loki's resemblence to Rathbone is a coincidence.
I have given this little sketchcard the look of a royal portrait.
