I was gonna tack this on a big sketch dump submission later, but I liked the colors and I'm impatient and lazy so no. Scraps later maybe, idk. FFFFFFFF.One of Disney's most unfairly overlooked princesses :< Everyone go watch The Black Cauldron IT'S ON YOU TUBE OKAY, 123GO!!!
Edit: The more I looked at it, the more I hated her lazy cop-out hair, so I changed it a bit to make it more true to the movie length and a bit more dynamic. GO TO BED LEXXY QUIT MESSING WITH IT GOSH.

I've always said that if I ran the Disney zoo I'd do a few things:
1) Reboot the hell out of 'Cauldron' and get it right.
2) I'd make Thorn Harvestar from 'Bone' the next Disney Princess with a triology or a five part saga. Mulan needs someone to talk to on the roster. Brad Bird would be my director of choice.
3)If I couldn't get the rights to 'Bone' then I'd cheat and make the Chuculain myth with a little girl in the place of Chuculain; because I want to see a princess with super strength. Seein' a chick face down the armies of darkness, strapped to a boulder for a last stand would be bad ass.
4)Get some fekking boys back in the rotation. Maybe do Finn MacCool or King Arthur or something like that.

I wrote this years ago. At least five years ago.
Btw, I actually did write the pilot episode of that fantasy. I based the female lead's story on the legends of Cu-Chulainn in Irish mythology, but her story is 100% her own.

Ah, I never got to see this movie as a kid, but stumbled upon it some weeks ago and loved it. Eilonwy is my second favorite favorite disney princess- lol, I could hear the kid in me crushing on her.

You can get the Prydain books at many bookstores--even a used book store if it's large enough. There is also a new box set that went on sale on Amazon last year. It has the most gorgeous cover illustrations and designs that I've seen for the collection, and it comes with a beautiful new map of Prydain that is made from the text of the books.
Also, the books were made into unabridged audiobooks a few years ago by Listening Library. It's a wonderful one-man performance by James Langton of which I am in the middle of my third listening. Lloyd Alexander also reads the Author's Notes himself. (If your library doesn't have them, ask the librarian how you can request them from other libraries. There are various ways to do so.)
Also, the prequel collection of Prydain short stories has been republished with a cover design matching the core five books, under the title "The Foundling and Other Tales of Prydain." So far, this has not been made into an audiobook, but I have e-mailed Listening Library to make it so.
Lastly, I want to say that this is still the most gorgeous picture of Eilonwy's Disney incarnation that I've ever seen--and that includes the movie itself! (You drew her better than the Disney artists!) And the pose adds as much to the picture as the drawing skill. I've framed this picture on my wall, right under a picture of Flynn and Rapunzel in the rowboat, which are right under Eric and Ariel in their rowboat.
Could you please do another picture or two of Eilonwy in this style? Pretty please with a cherry on top?

The movie is a favorite of mine; and while I do submit it's a gorgeous picture it doesn't compare to Don Bluth's illustration in the film. It might be more accurate to the book, but Bluth's is more aesthetically enthralling. The animation is a cheat but it's a film so he gets to. He didn't draw just one version of the character: he drew a comprehensive sentimental spectrum to eclipse, animation wise, most of Disney's best.

Haha, I'm glad you like the drawing! It's years old now, though, and my style has evolved quite a bit since then, so I don't think I'll be doing more quite like this. I would love to do some Eilonwy/Prydain art based purely off the books' descriptions and illustrations, however. Since drawing this I collected and read all five; so wonderful! I wonder if any of the volumes I collected have this new cover art you speak of.

Oh my goshhhhh! You actually know Eilonwy?! You wouldn't imagine it, but the movie never got even in my country! I accidentally stumbled upon the black caudron and watched it a while ago! Eilonwy is so adorable, isn't she?! And now call me crazy, but I believe she looks a lot like Rapunzel from Disney's new movie, Tangled! (Which I love as well! ^_^)

Yet Rapunzel IS counted as an official Disney Princess...but not Eilonwy.

I mean, just, why? She's a character from the Disney Animated Canon, and she's a princess. She's, by definition, a Disney princess.
Not including her in the line makes absolutely no sense.

That's really unfair! I know that the black cauldron wasn't such a big hit like the other Disney movies, but Eilonwy is definitely a princess!
Well, what can I say? Unfair for her! She's a Disney princess inside my head! My guess is they don't want to show they'd created a princess so similar to Rapunzel before her! Like Little John from Disney's Robin Hood. If you look at him, he's just like Baloo, Moglie's bear friend! Just in a different color I think. And the king's snake from Robin Hood is the exact same as the stupid snake from the Jungle Book as well! They keep doing that sort of thing!

The Black Cauldron is actually a pretty good movie. I saw it in the theater when it first came out. Definitely not one for the little kiddies, but great none the less.
You're right, it's about time that a princess other that Aurora, Snow White, and Cinderella got some spot light...
