Creeper!Thane's jealous...

Leyne In reply to Nemonus [2010-04-11 07:59:06 +0000 UTC]

Hehe.^^ It's from the cutscene at the beginning of Legion's loyalty mission.

Joker isn't actually sleeping in that scene, he's shaking his head contemptuously .

[link]

"Creeper!Thane", lol
Jealous of what? Joker's sleep?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nemonus In reply to Leyne [2010-04-11 18:32:07 +0000 UTC]

I do remember that cutscene. Hehe, well the screenshot works for a shot of him sleeping. I bet/like to think he has slept in that chair on a couple occasions. Maybe it's terrible of me, but I just think that'd be cute.

Jealous of Shepard's attention! lol

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Leyne In reply to Nemonus [2010-04-11 20:14:41 +0000 UTC]

Don't worry, it's not just you, I'd love to see a scene like that in ME3^^. It would be just like Joker to fall asleep in the chair. Hey, it's a leather chair! And it's a loooong way to the crew sleeper pods.

Oh, my Main!Boring!Default!MaleShep is BFF with everyone on the ship .
Now, if it were FemShep instead...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nemonus In reply to Leyne [2010-04-11 21:52:01 +0000 UTC]

Those sleeper pods looked pretty claustrophobic. I was glad to see that the crew got a room in ME2, lol.

lol exactly. ^_^ I haven't gotten up the internet to play male!Shep yet (my three females occupy enough of my time as it is...)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Leyne In reply to Nemonus [2010-04-12 13:16:04 +0000 UTC]

I was glad too! I kept eavesdropping on the two friends who were always talking about their families in the crew quarters.

Hehe, Sheps are time-consuming.
I like playing a game as both genders, maybe also because I tend to consider my characters as "OCs" rather than "alter egos" of myself.
... and yet, I just can't play totally evil characters.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nemonus In reply to Leyne [2010-04-12 20:03:06 +0000 UTC]

That was a cool touch! Those two and Gabby & Kenneth. I loved Gabby & Kenneth.

...I just wrote "gotten up the internet", didn't I. XD Interest.

lol I can't play totally evil either. I tend to start out thinking of my PCs as alter egos, but as they of course go through things that affect them differently than things affect me, that changes and I end up with a personality I can write about. My Revan and Exile developed like that. Each has aspects of me, but are distinct. Still working on Shepard.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Leyne In reply to Nemonus [2010-04-13 15:32:37 +0000 UTC]

Oh, Gabby and Kenneth are incredible. I laughed so hard. And their banter kept me company while I tried to find the elevator. I always lost myself on the engineering deck.

lol, no problem! You know, actually I wondered if it was an idiom I didn't know...

That's interesting! Heh, it takes a lot of time for me to develop the personality of a character. I'm always afraid of making them clichΓ©.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nemonus In reply to Leyne [2010-04-13 21:26:23 +0000 UTC]

Yep, it's always scary to write something that falls into cliche--or, worse, to not write something that feels right just because you're afraid of it being labeled cliche. Or at least that's how I feel. I don't know if, left to their own devices and not taught otherwise, all writers wouldn't stick with Mary Sues.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Leyne In reply to Nemonus [2010-04-15 15:31:35 +0000 UTC]

Hm, that's an interesting thought. I, for one, am often guilty of overthinking things when I write. So I keep changing this and that and it takes ages for me to write even a short story.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nemonus In reply to Leyne [2010-04-15 15:37:13 +0000 UTC]

That happens to me with original fiction--not fan fiction.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Leyne In reply to Nemonus [2010-04-15 15:48:54 +0000 UTC]

Wow, you write original fiction?
I tried many times, but I was never satisfied with the result.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nemonus In reply to Leyne [2010-04-15 15:54:21 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes. Or at least, I try. I've got a fictionpress account under the same name as here that tells the story pretty well--I can write it, but it rarely holds my attention very long. It's a bit upsetting that I can't keep my mind on my own stuff because fanfic is just...more interesting.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Leyne In reply to Nemonus [2010-04-15 16:18:25 +0000 UTC]

Do you mind if I take a look at your profile there?

Heh, I understand. And it's not like fanfic is easier to write. It poses different challenges, but I think it requires as much effort as original writing. It's just that those fanfic plot bunnies are hard to resist.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nemonus In reply to Leyne [2010-04-15 19:39:47 +0000 UTC]

No, go ahead. A lot of the stuff is old and bad, and...I don't think there's anything novel-length that's finished (okay, except Plotseekers. I am mad proud of Plotseekers.) FP has symbolized failure for me lately.

I don't know. I would on principle disagree with the statement that fanfic is easier to write--you still have to come up with plot, concepts, and characterization if not characters. There'd be more good stuff if it was so easy. Original writing isn't any more or less of a chore for me. It just isn't as interesting. And that's upsetting to realize for someone who would really, really like to make a living at writing. I wish my plot bunny farm had more OF and less Shoker. XD

Okay, if I'm truly honest with myself I only half wish that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Leyne In reply to Nemonus [2010-04-16 06:19:19 +0000 UTC]

Awww, I'm sorry that you're not satisfied with your old stuff... but I think it's normal. When I go back and read some of my first attempts at writing I keep asking myself "Did I really ever think this was good?"

But hey, every writer has to start somewhere. ^_^ Besides, the things we are not satisfied with anymore are not necessarily that bad. ^_^

Ok, thanks. Plotseekers? Interesting title!

I totally agree with you. As for fanfic being more interesting... why don't you try to become one of the official writers for a franchise you like?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nemonus In reply to Leyne [2010-04-17 02:49:27 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. Plotseekers is the one, or the sort of thing, that I'm (very passively--it should be more actively) trying to get published. It's metafiction, which is just so much fun to write. You're certainly correct about people not being able to judge their own old stuff well--I guess taking it to the professional level and comparing it there is the only way to know. Next semester I'm interning at a literature magazine, so I'll be exposed to what's really being published right now. I expect, or very much hope, that my style will mature during that period.

Oh, I'd love to! I have no idea how it works with Mass Effect, but with Star Wars you need to be asked by the company to write for them. I'm not sure how they pick, what with the fact that I don't think some Star Wars authors are all that good, but anyway you need at least some original stuff to get noticed.

Have you read any of the Mass Effect novels? I'd like to pick one up, but only if they're any good.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Leyne In reply to Nemonus [2010-04-17 14:43:11 +0000 UTC]

Metafiction, you said? Hmmm, that sounds intriguing ^^. Good luck with publishing it! It must be such a satisfaction! A literature magazine? Wow, I'm sure it will be a wonderful experience for you .

Oh, I didn't know that. But I agree with you, some SW books are just unreadable.
Have you tried taking a look at the career page on BioWare's official site?

No, unfortunately I haven't (yet). I don't even know anyone who has, so I can't give you any advice on this.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nemonus In reply to Leyne [2010-04-18 01:36:21 +0000 UTC]

It's one of my favourite genres, metafiction. Mostly because it plays with all the rest of the genres. Thank you...

I have, actually. They require a writing sample in the Neverwinter Nights dialogue tree format...which requires downloading something (I think) and was generally incomprehensible. I may still do a scene for them, but it'd be hard to be sure I was doing it right

That's okay; I ought to look them up on Amazon.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Leyne In reply to Nemonus [2010-04-19 08:09:27 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! Yep, it sounds fun^^.

That "writing sample" sounds terribly complicated, instead. Especially if there are no precise guidelines.

I've read your journal, I'm sorry to hear the novels aren't interesting. How did they manage to make the ME universe boring?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nemonus In reply to Leyne [2010-04-19 20:31:35 +0000 UTC]

There weren't guidelines unless you downloaded the NWN program, and none at all for whether you were supposed to write in an existing universe or not. So...I think I'll try to attract their attention other ways.

Okay, they started out with lots of paragraphs of description--of the ships, of the pre-game history like the humans finding the Mars relay. It was unexciting in terms of the word choice--just sortof dull prose. The main character, captain something, didn't have much personality. The first chapter was about him hearing about the discovery of aliens (i.e. turians) at the Shangxi (or however it's spelled) colony. But they didn't show the first contact or much about Arcturus Station (which I'm sure you know would have been useful to me.) They just skipped ahead to stuff about Captain Andersen, who came off as pretty flat too. I was looking for some fun description of technology and aliens, and didn't get it. There are so many better authors I would like to see unleashed upon that world!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Leyne In reply to Nemonus [2010-04-20 17:00:57 +0000 UTC]

^^
Storming their offices if there's no Shoker in ME3 may be a good start.

Ahem, seriously, I hope you do find a way!

Oh, dull writing has killed so many good stories. Sigh.
Yeah, I'm sure some info about Arcturus station would have come in handy. And it would have been interesting.

I totally agree. ME has such a rich universe... the books should expand on the details and the world-building!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nemonus In reply to Leyne [2010-04-20 23:45:55 +0000 UTC]

...LOL! That would draw their attention. Run in brandishing manuscripts...

I do too. Thus far, praying has been my strategy.

I wanna write some about Joker-as-teenager, but...there is so much I want to write! You know; I've been telling you most of my plot bunnies. Must...get...back to Resurrection!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Leyne In reply to Nemonus [2010-04-22 15:29:26 +0000 UTC]

Well, that's always a good strategy.^^

And I'm glad you told me, they're nice plot bunnies, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun.
Writing Joker as a teenager must be quite a challenge... but oh, the fun!

Yes. You must. We demand moar Resurrection!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nemonus In reply to Leyne [2010-04-22 17:15:21 +0000 UTC]

It would be a challenge. Some people have done really good fics about him in flight school, and I wouldn't wanna rehash that. We'll see. I'm getting more used to writing him.

Moar is coming! Soon. And the delay will be explained. ^_^
