You're too kind. Instead of osmosis, how about practice, owning the proper tools, and a system that is stable enough to have extended painting sessions of any sore. Especially in Oekaki, because some applets does not allow for reworkings or continuation of any sort.

I happened upon an Oekaki board on Rober DeJesus' site, I got a glimpse of the authentic OekakiBBS applet, I can tell you it is completely different from the Suru interface.
I have a link in my description to the board, it does not require a password to access the applet, just to post, so you can at least see the interface.

Ah yes, I just checked it out, and it IS a version of PaintBB, rather than OekakiBB. Which makes sense as to how you got those smooth tones. Still very cool!
