Description The word fedora comes from the title of an 1882 play by Victorien Sardou, "Fédora". The play was written by Sarah Bernhardt- a noted cross-dresser- who wore a center-crossed, soft brimmed hat during the play. It became the symbol for the women's rights movement, and became popular among men when Edward, Prince of Wales, started wearing them in 1924. In film noir, fedoras help create a sense of intrigue and mystery.
