Mario noticed that some Toads in the Mushroom Kingdom and Toad Town were looking angry at him lately, they shouted, saying that he was a "mean man" and/or a "bad guy". He became confused, this wasn't like them, he usually sees them greet him happily. Something weird was going on.

Later that day, many Toads suddenly started to hate on Mario, and they formed a big angry crowd. They shouted and screamed angrily, insults blazing through like a fireball. Mario was worried, and was wondering what was going on. "Why are the Toads suddenly so angry at me?" He thought as he ran away from the angry crowd, and hid inside his house.

Mario decided to get on his computer and check the news. He checked why everyone was so upset in a news article, and found something that broke him.

He found out that people on the internet claimed he was a mental bad guy who was heartless, and it all started from a video from a YouTube channel called Game Theory. They said that he treated his brother, Luigi, horribly, dropped Yoshi down cliffs, killed Toads by smashing Brick Blocks and burning Piranha Plants (because they were turned into them by Bowser), and more!

Mario was hurt. The pain hit him harder than falling into a pit of lava at Bowser's Castle. This was the entire reason why the Mushroom Kingdom was acting so hostile at him.

But that wasn't all, some of his friends at Smash believed his claims and were just as angry as Toads. He opened his email and got upset messages from them, friends at the Mushroom Kingdom and Smash friends, like Falco, Ness, Pikachu, Toadette, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Little Mac, Toon Link, heck, even Pit! One of his biggest fans in Smash! The one that looked up to Mario as a great hero, and sometimes, even a father!

As a result, Mario lost the happiness that made the world smile. Never in his life did he expect to get hatred like THAT. He tried to hide his emotions from everyone, but it wasn't easy. But Luigi started to notice that Mario wasn't acting the same as he used to.

Later one night, Luigi had a talk with Yoshi, asking him why he wasn't feeling his happy-go-lucky self. He explained that many of the residents in Toad Town and the Mushroom Kingdom heard about claims that Mario was a mental person and ended up believing them, which caused an enormous amount of hatred and backlash. He also said that he didn't believe that claim one bit, because he knew Mario wouldn't be as evil as Bowser, and how he had known him as a nice person for years. After that, Luigi realized that this was serious, and that he needed to find his brother immediately. He called Peach, Link, Kirby, Sonic, and even Marth, who was (in my headcanon) Mario's rival in Smash, despite that, he cares for Mario too. They were shocked and came with Luigi to help him.

They went to Mario's house and found him at his room, which was although dark, the moonlight was lighting the room a bit. Luigi knocked on the door lightly and asked to come in. The door was unlocked, they opened it, and they saw Mario, completely silent.

"Bro?" Luigi asked quietly in worry, and Mario raised his head, revealing his heartbroken face. His eyes were red, most likely he was crying his eyes out, his eyes were completely dull in unhappiness, completely losing the happy look he had, his hair was messed up, and his frown was upsetting.
Luigi felt like he wanted to cry just from seeing Mario's upset expression. They have seen Mario get upset, even saw him cry a few times, but they have never seen him like this before.

They walked to Mario quietly, as tears slowly started to form in his eyes again. They didn't even need to ask Mario what was wrong, as Luigi told them, and they could already tell from the upset look on his face. Peach, Luigi, and Kirby gave him a hug, with the rest of them joining in on the hug. Peach whispered.

''Mario... you are still loved...''

Mario felt the words come to him, simple words that showed that despite that false claim, many of his friends still cared for him. Mario slowly started to sob as tears fell from his eyes, and his sobbing later turned into intense crying. They hugged him as he broke into tears, weeping. Despite that, Mario felt his heart warm up with happiness, and soon, he smiled for the first time in a while.

The next day, Peach would deliver a message to the Mushroom Kingdom and the Smash fighters, saying that the claims and theories on the internet are false, and shouldn't be trusted to the point it makes us think about people in the wrong way. She also delivered a message, saying that Mario is a true hero that cares for the Mushroom Kingdom, and shows care and emotions to many of the Mushroom Kingdom's residents, including his friends, and even people he doesn't like. She finishes it off by saying that Mario is not a bad guy.

Later, the Toads apologized to Mario for shouting at him and believing that he was a bad guy, and his friends at Smash also apologized. Mario forgave them, and that was enough to teach them a good lesson and give as a great moral as well:

It was to never trust false rumors, claims, and theories. As they can cause bad stuff to happen.

I remember that theory that the Game Theorists, and I thought it was horrible! Mario is NOT a mental person. He doesn't treat Luigi horribly! They sometimes have a bit of sibling rivalry, but they care and love each other (as brothers, don't take this the wrong way). He even thanked him in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, and hugged him in many games, like Luigi's Mansion 3 and Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story!

Plus, he got emotional like that time in Super Mario Sunshine when F.L.U.D.D nearly died, and in Super Mario Galaxy, when the Lumas flew in the black hole to save the world, including the one he first met.

Sure, here are times when he can be unlikeable, and he does have some flaws, but despite that, Mario is an amazing hero to the Mushroom Kingdom, and a kind friend to many. If it wasn't for him, video games wouldn't be as popular as they used to be. To me, Mario holds a special place in my heart, and to several Mario fans, I'm sure they do too.

(I never thought I could write something like that this long.)
