Description
This is one of my older photographs, taken my senior year of high school in Chicago, Illinois. It was developed in the B&W darkroom of photography classroom J-205, a place where I fell in love with art. I'll concede that I've done a little touching up on Photoshop since I've lost the original negative and and had to scan this from an old print. I believe this is also the last photograph I developed in the darkroom – a process I miss very much. Here is the original commentary that went with the photo:

I think few fully grasp the beauty of street performance; we’re caught in such a whirlwind of media flashes and celebrity worship that any sort of art form beyond the realm of our headsets, flat screen monitors, and TVs inevitably suffer from neglect. They survive on a mere series of glimpses from those so consumed with the momentum of their lives that they’ve become incapable of slowing down, even for a moment, to fully appreciate a piece in time. Perhaps it’s that street artists are written off as the underachievers of society, too lazy to get a real job -- the sort of people you throw your loose change at, not out of sympathy, but out of pity. If there weren’t something wrong with them, if they at least truly had talent, they’d be “making it”. But isn’t street art, regardless of what that art may be, one of the truest testaments to freedom of expression? To creative flexibility? To the art form itself?
