I love it how Cadance, Celestia and Luna are absolutely loving it,but Twilight Sparkle is like ''Omg why am I in this mud bath?!?!?! I'm a princess I'm meant to stay clean!''. I also love Twilight with a wet mane. Especially when grey Fluttershy pours a bucket over her head; she's like ''Fluttershy, why did you do that?!?''

I am getting off the subject now.

But basically I'm just saying that I love it and I hope you do lots more wonderful work like this. Because I absolutely love it.

If I were Twilight, I would enjoy a mud bath every so often.

I'd prefer it if you touched on each individual subject in your critique (this was a mistake I made with accepting other critiques) and how to improve each one.

That was my first Critique. Next time, I will do it more in-depth.

So, where do we start?

The picture is well arranged. Every part is filled with something, including the background which is very well made with its gradients and show-accurate design. You also didn't forget any details like the gloss on Twi's wet mane or the small impacts of the raindrops in the mud.

The poses are 90% custom and yet almost perfectly show-accurate, which is quite impressive, but there are still some details that seem a bit off, like Twilights wing or Lunas forelegs.

The mood feels right. You managed well to communicate the ponies' emotions: All different, but creating a coherent atmosphere of joy and carelessness. (and Twi being pissed ^^) Yet, I think that the picture still lacks some dynamics and vividness. I imagine a pony jumping into the pool or flinging her mane dry.

As I said before, the picture is well arranged, but this also raises the impression of a still life. The ponies are all together in one picture, but they stay for themselves and do not interact directly with each other. The only link between Celestia and the mud bucket is the glow of her magic. Instead, she could look gleefully at Twi and duck like a predator. To break that still-life-effect, it is always helpful to intentionally draw something partially off-screen. This creates the impression of a lucky snapshot instead of a scripted scene.

Last thing, the technique. Your vectoring skills are undoubtedly on a professional level. You also have the persistence to eradicate every possible error in the whole huge picture. I couldn't find anything except that one render error. But - and here it comes - the ponies are not sunken into the mud like the crowns and horseshoe-thingies. Instead, they seem to be floating on the surface, which is why they look a bit like paper cutouts that have been pasted on the canvas. Sure, it would have been quite difficult to achieve this - especially for Luna - , but it still looks a bit weird to me.

So, to sum this up:
β€’ Vision: Great, clear vision of a scene that could perfectly happen.
β€’ Originality: Creative and well made, but not totally revolutionary.
β€’ Technique: Flawless vectoring, but some issues where the mud hits the pony.
β€’ Impact: The mood feels right, but it looks a bit too stationary for me.

Keep up the good work!

I love how you made the all of the princesses playing in the mud! It's like they're bonding!

I also like how they're doing normal pony things instead of princess things. Not every princess has to be a perfectionist!

Anyways, I also like how Celestia is pouring Mud over Twilight. It reminds me of the ice bucket challenge!

Luna in the mud is also really cute! She's acting like a cute wittle doggy!

And Cadence also having fun with her princess friends and taking a break from Shining (That's what I think xD) really made my day! Plus, seeing the princesses with no jewelry makes me feel relaxed cause' sometimes jewelry makes me feel... Trapped. On the other... hoof, no jewelry makes me feel free!

If you are going to give a star rating that isn't full in a category, I'd appreciate if you could tell me how to bring that up to a full 5 in the future.

Very nice work man.
31 hours? I know the feel. Vector I'm working on at the moment, 3 days work on the head and hair.

Trust me man sometimes I might work 5 hours on a vector then I don't touch it for a week.
My EqG AJ took around 2-3 weeks on and off though probably 20 hours actual work.
Though once finished you appreciate the hard work you put in as you should with this piece, well done.

This, on front page of the newspapers.

"Royal princesses caught playing like fillies in the mud instead of taking care of important royal tasks. Are they worth controlling Equestria? More on page A2."

Beautiful work.

Oh, lighten up, Twi. If they can stand a little mud, why shouldn't you?

They look so adorable. I love seeing the princesses being more casual and just having fun.

Well, it sure takes more time to create a vector from scratch instead of just tracing a screenshot. Good work here.
There's a small pink box in the bush over Cadance's wing. Might be an exporting error.

It sure can be hard to keep track of everything when doing full scenes like this in Inkscape but it looks great! I'd love to see how you handled things such as three-sided objects and (legs) and complex layering.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

liamwhite1 In reply to masonmouse [2014-11-14 19:43:46 +0000 UTC]

Are you able to be more specific about what you are asking?

Also, my source file is right there for you to study, and for the most part correctly layered.

masonmouse In reply to liamwhite1 [2014-12-01 03:07:16 +0000 UTC]

Objects like legs that, when you apply a stroke, end up making the top of the leg not appear to be part of the body. Do you apply the stroke on a separate object underneath the leg or do you mask the stroke along the top of the leg?

Also, it just looks like there's a PNG to download, not an SVG. Or am I missing something?

Aha! Sorry, I saw the word SVG and just thought it was a description of the format - I didn't realize it was a link. Thanks! I've downloaded it and am looking it over. It definitely answers my questions.
