Those of you who watch me may be wondering where this came from.
I used to be the BIGGEST Pokémon nerd on the planet. That's right. You know the guy who knew how to play the theme from Pokémon Snap on the Tenor Sax, and the Marimba? HE made fun of me for being so into the franchise.
Now that I'm on my own and out of highschool and junior college... What the Hell.
I LOVE THESE GUYS!
Oh, and yeah, that's a real nebula I painted in the background. Look it up on Google image search. The reason I bring this up is NOT to show off that I can paint a nebula, frankly the photo's much better (DUH), but that I was astounded at how well it fit the composition and highlighted the characters when I used the photo in as a stand-in. The characters were already arranged. THAT's the scary part. I just picked it because I liked the color, lol!
Characters Jessie, James, and Meowth of Team Rocket, from the Pokémon anime series are the intellectual property of Nintendo, 4Kids entertainment, Satoshi Tajiri, and Pokémon USA. (DUH)

I have such a fondness for it, even if I hardly find time to play the video games much any more... and no one is ever around to play cards with me... If I can even remember how to do it...

Well, the story told by Ash from the Pokemon series is actually a hugely fabricated lie meant to satisfy the boy's ego. Meowth and I first met in tennis class sophmore year. Lemme tell you, he had the best lob. We lost touch after graduation...

Ah,well,let me clarify.
In the show,Team Rocket was essentially reduced to comic relief in their weekly shenanigans. There was nothing dark or sinister about them. Even though their motives were "evil" they weren't particularly evil themselves (or evil looking)
Which leads to your take on them,which is darkly shaded and features a sinister looking Meowth,which contrasts from the Team Rocket I know and love.

Ah. I can see that, but I'm sure some part of them wishes they could be that sinister.
And I don't know about you, but to me, Meowth, and to a lesser degree, Jessie did often seem rather mean-spirited.
The intention was actually a bit of just that, though: to make them look more intimidating and badass than they ever actually were. The Team Rocket they wished they could be, and likely fancied themselves as, and therefore would want to look when reciting the motto.

It all comes down to a persons preference. 
You like the darker take on the characters (which they were originally designed to be) and I prefer the brighter versions. So I can understand what you were going for with this,and I think you achieved the look you wanted for Team Rocket.

Oh, believe me, I love them both. I may follow up with a more playful, "Team Rocket's Rockin'!" type image.

Haha, yeah, that pose is definitely more suitable for James than that first one you'd sketched. Great job on this one, and props for making Meowth blend somewhat with the style.

It was a lot easier than I thought it would be, which was strange. I just gave him some fur, anatomy, and tried to incorporate some cat-language into his expression.

I'm kind of in that "it's done, bask in the glory" phase of working on art... You know, where you just finished something, and you're not quite ready to move on yet.
I did my contest submission today. I think I'm at a disadvantage seeing as what they're looking for, but I'm gonna submit it anyway as soon as I get added to the club.
