Description Our final project in my Painting I class this past semester was to choose a painting done by a well known artist, and attempt to replicate it, so here is mine, done after "The Mermaid" by John William Waterhouse.

Mine's face came out a bit different, but truth be told, I like it a bit better. the face in the original looked a bit young for the body, and I am also very pleased with the colour in mine's tail.

Waterhouse is such an idol of mine. I can't even fathom being able to paint in oil that well. Your attempt is really nice! I love the vibrant blues a well as the details.

I do definitely love me some waterhouse. He was most certainly amazing. There's just such a luminous quality to his work, much of it looks like it could just jump straight off the canvas at you.

I'm glad you like it. The blues are a favorite part of the piece for me as well.

I never noticed this in your gallery before. I love Waterhouse and you've done a really interesting relication.
Did you use oils or acrylics?

Amazing with acrylics. I hate how quickly they dry. Makes it even more amazing

Theres alot of new mediums that slow the dry process better now and help with the blending. I found Liquitex slow-dri blending gel med retardateur to work so amazing I doubt I will use oils much anylonger.

Really? Wow! It must be good.
Nothing beats the smell of oil paints and linseed oil though. You feel like a real artist when you're in that vaporous haze!!
