I don't see any scales, nor do I see anything that looks like a purple heart. Honestly though, I expected something having to do with the "Purple Heart" given to soldiers wounded in battle. XD

Purple heart is the type of wood that is used on the handle. That is the natural color of teh wood, no dyes or stains. Scales are two pieces of wood mounted to a full tang.

[link] raw color light purple but when polished or slightly burned dark purple. and yes it does make purple saw dust It can cause a bad reaction but after a few years of working with it you get immune.
