Description Experimental B.O.W created by infecting several species of baboons with the Las Plagas. While originally only an experimental phase in the creation of Majini, and not intended to be weaponised, they were released to the Tricell laboratories to intercept the BSAA agents Redfield and Alomar.

They tend to lie in wait and plunge screaming towards the face of their prey, grabbing hold with their tentacles and tearing away the flesh.

Strategy against the Nyani:

While extremely agile and capable of dealing huge amounts of damage if succesfully latching to the face of their target, they are easy to deal with if the surprise is not on their side.

The exposed plaga in their mouth is their weak point, and even a one shot of the hangun there will be enough to kill it, if you manage to shoot it when it's leaping at you.
If the surprise attack fails, they will attempt to flee, and if cornered, slash the foe with their tentacles, exposing their weak spot.

Like other Las plagas, these will die if exposed when using the Flash Grenade.

I wanted to make a smaller enemy, something that could appear as a common enemy. And annoy the player a lot.
I went back and forth with the anatomy of this thing, and whether to make it anatomically correct, but I decided to go for a design that could be found in a RE game.

Goes with my theory that plagas can be scary, they're just not using them right.

Well, if you'd go as scary as possible, I think some kind of scenario where you can't tell the difference between infected humans and non-infected ones would be the best way to take full advantage of the mind-control thing the plagas have.

i think a proper scenario would be one that encompasses all of nature. remember the plagas can work together regardless of the host... so... say in the congo. Got gorrillas, humans and crocs rushing you from all sides. in the middle of the jungle. No place for cover. perfect high speed fear.

Yes. That would be more action-oriented, but would make interesting combat scenarios, at least. But newer RE-games haven't really even tried to be horror. There's no feeling of suspense.

And with mind-control, you could easily have that.
Jill is hypnotised to do horrible things against her will in RE5, and it's completely played for drama, with no attempt at horror.

to be fair hers was meant as a trauma thing. I mean she wasnt plaga controlled. She was just given the super chemical from that plant. But with the plagas, i mean real plagas not re5 bioweapon ones, you have an opportunity for real communal violence. Proper horror, well for the pace they want to go at.

Yes, but she was still controlled. Her being alive but changed could have been used to a greater effect to screw with Chris' head.

RE4 would have made a good horror game setup, if handled from a different perspective, like one of the villagers, playing through the time when the cult were taking hold of the place, and the people were turning into the zombie-like infected.

Never in RE4 or 5, despite the enemies being about mind-control, do they really use it to explore the idea of identity, and how you can be controlled by someone else to invoke horror, or whether you can trust people or not.
The furthest it ever goes to that direction is when Leon chokes Ada in RE4, and Ashley is hypnotised to go to Saddler, but Saddler lacks the threat to make it scary. I mean, he has no real plan on how to deal with Leon, and given that you manage to kill most of his men and stumble upon the cure for the parasite because he just leaves you alone, he doesn't really work as believable psychological threat.

Now, if it would have been revealed that everything Leon did was manipulated by Saddler, or someone else, if for example actually Mendez (or the Merchant!), used him to clear up Saddler and his group to take over, manipulating him through the plaga inside of him...

As it is, the bad guys have plenty of opportunities to kill Leon, or take him in until the plaga takes him over, but instead they just let him wander around the countryside ruining their stuff.

Aye psychological horror... not really REs thing ya know? They're more of a physical horror. What your going for is the good o' silent hill plots. Like the subplot in silent hill origins, which Travis being a serial killer, murdering women what look like his mom. Game may not have been scary but i loved that soooo very much. Also solidified the butcher for me as a creature unto himself and not a direct copy of pyramid head. Ah tangent... >.>

But yes i do get what your saying, just knowin that capcom will probably never do that. And to its credit re4 may not be terrifying persay... but those regenerators frighten me, and it's some pretty intense stuff. Atleast after all the hours i've poured into platinuming re5.

I wrote a journal entry a while ago about whether or not RE was scary

As for the mind control thing, I wonder if any game has done it the way that you find out that you, the player, are actually the thing controlling it?
Like, have the character questioning his sanity, and then make him/her protest the control you have over him.

Eternal Darkness did break the fourth wall every now and then that way, but I don't think it goes in that direction so much. One of the characters did look at the camera and try to shoot it, but that's the closest to it, I think.

hm... its a hard thing to pull off and i don't think alot of people would like it to be honest. Don't blame call of duty for that though, blame society in general.

I haven't played most call of duties, so I'm not sure what you mean. Did they do something like that?

It would require good writing and execution, though, as any psychological plot would.

No, its any time someone complains about the complexity of a plot the usual response is "git back to yer halo and cod!"

Welcome
Great idea! A zombie-vulture has great potential of being a cool B.O.W.

Btw: I'm working on the art-trade, but I don't have my scanner at the moment, so you'll have to wait till at least next week. Sorry

Yeah, and they would spread the virus. I'm thinking of making it not a B.O.W, but an accidental infected.
But I'm working on a new Hunter.

Take your time, I'm in no hurry.

Small, agile, common, moderately dangerous... yeah, you just made something that's going to annoy a lot of players Nice work and nifty concept.

Don't forget their tactic of jumping at you from the shadows and then retreating.

I think they might make some noises that would unnerve the player, from the shadows.
