Description

This one was inspired a bit by the House Pets comic and some Calvin and Hobbs. Pic itself is still cute. ^^

Ronny was an odd little boy. At just over a year old it was obvious to anyone who spend enough time around him. While most babies his age were only using a few words Ronny was having conversations and using some words even a lot of adults didn't know. Beyond that the lil tyke had shown a huge aptitude for all things mechanical and was quite obviously very much wise beyond his years. Why? Well that's the thing. Nobody was quite sure. Both his parents had very high IQs and worked in various fields of science genetics for his dad and engineering for his mom. Ronny himself suspects it might be something his dad had been working on before he passed away. But they'll never know for sure. Rex for his part is ever faithful to his boy though. The dog was nothing special in this day of genetic engineering. Just one of a new variety of pet with some rights of personhood. Rex had been adopted by Ronny's father as a puppy and part of the family for a few years now. He'd been excited bout the baby and was quite happy to help out and looked forward to having someone to play with and talk to. Boy did he ever get it. Ronny quite loved his best buddy even if he was by far the smarter of the two. Still the dog always listened even if some of the stuff Ronny talked about went over his head and even if Ronny's diaper stank to the stratosphere. One thing Rex couldn't help but giggle about. Ronny was so incredibly intelligent in a lot of ways but he still wet and soiled his diapers, toddled more than walked, even preferring to just crawl if his hands were free. Ronny still used a bottle and a pacifier and had all the other typical trappings of infancy even as it clashed with the trappings of a scientist. Ronny could still be clingy as any baby always having at least his teddy with him and wanting Rex to stay with him in his crib on stormy nights.

Rex grinned as he saw Ronny toddling back out into the living room after a diaper change and hopped down off the couch.

"Ok I'm ready for some movies. All fresh and clean and diagnostics on the drone are still running." Ronny smiled still not having full dentition yet.

"Good now I'm gonna introduce you to a few of my favorite movies! Dad used to love em too." Rex said as he looked up at the TV screen and turned it on with a just a word.

"Oh what are we watching?" Ronny asked curiously looking from the dog to the TV screen.

"StarWars! It's a classic scifi set!" Rex grinned bouncing a bit excitedly remembering the first time he'd seen them as a pup. "We're gonna watch em in order. See it's two trilogies but the ones that take place first came out after the ones that take place later. It's called a prequel."

"Oh.... that sounds kinda stupid to release em that way but lets watch em." Ronny shrugged figuring he had time. The Diagnostics would take a while and his data pad would vibrate in his overalls pocket when it was done.

"Yeah I think the guy just didn't have an idea for what came before until later. But it's still neat." Rex explained as he helped Ronny up into the couch giving him a shove and getting a shoe in his face. "Ronny why are you wearing shoes inside?"

"Oh well their new and I like em and it's kinda easier to walk and Ok I forgot I had em on and I think mommy did too. She was on autopilot when she changed me." Ronny giggled recalling her being somewhat zoned out.

"Hehe It's that project mom's been working on. I hope she finishes it soon." Rex remarked as he hopped up next and pried the shoes off Ronny's feet. "TV. Play Star Wars Prequel Trilogy."

With that the first movie began as Ronny snuggled up and watched eyes glued to the screen in excitement. Being so little all movies were new to him and everything was at least somewhat good. As they watched they just got absorbed into the film. It didn't matter it wasn't the best. It was fun for them and they cheered on the good guys and chattered through the movie. Even as Ronny got a lil sleepy Rex just cuddled him close as they watched him getting a lil drowsy himself. By the time Mom walked into the room to find the credits rolling she smiled seeing the too snuggled up and asleep. Mom wondered how long moments like this would last. Wondered what Ronny would be as he grew up. She hadn't yet voiced worries that Ronny might not be growing UP however. His growth had seemed to slow a bit and she worried. But for now she those worries were pushed aside as another worry hit her. Had Rex put on his pup pull-up before the movie? She didn't want him to wet the couch but didn't want to wake him up and ruin the adorable scene of a boy and his dog.
