Description
Well I finally got around to doing up more characters from the same universe as Rontelous. As always with my new species we'll start with a Codex entry on the species and then have a lil something on the characters.

The Telken are a Hominid race from the planet Telkara. Telkara is a world of extremes. It orbit an energetic blue star which puts off much more light in the UV spectrum than Earth. Telkara also orbits it's star on the outer edge of it's life zone. Approximately a quarter of the northern and southern hemisphere is permanently locked in glaciers which give way to evergreen forest as it moves into the small temperate bands and gives way to jungle around the equatorial Region. The Telken first arose in the Northern forest near the glaciers. Spending much of their time hunting the Mega fauna which could traverse the glaciers. Because of the exceptionally high UV levels of their sun the Telken's skin adopted a jet black pigmentation to ward off the excess UV and the skin has taken on a smooth feel likened to that of aquatic mammals on earth. Indeed Telken possess minor webbing in hands and feet which make them fine swimmers. Because of their origins Telken have a higher than normal tolerance for cold while maintaining the same heat tolerances common to most hominid life. A large number of Telken on their homeworld live in the temperate bands or equatorial region now in the large mega cities which have sprung up. This however has lead to a cultural divide. While Telken found in the Equatorial region and cities tend to be relatively open minded and rational beigns the Telken of the arctic regions tend to be moderately xenophobic and retain strong religious and superstitious beliefs. These beliefs tend to govern the live of all who live in the arctic regions wither they hold to these beliefs themselves or not. The only aspect of their faith of note seems to be passages concerning Albinos. Telken with Albinism exhibit white skin and typically red hair and eye coloring. They are exceptionally susceptible to their home star's UV. Short exposure can rapidly cause sun burn and prolonged exposure can cause permanent damage. Cumulative exposure can lead to skin cancer and even death. Because of this those with this condition typically are more active at night when they need not worry about protection from the sun. However this nocturnal nature has lead many of fear them. It is said in their sacred text that these individuals are the pawns of the underworld and that they may be controlled at any time. There are tales in the text which tell of some making a pack with the creatures of the underworld to gain normal skintone if they can secure a number of souls for the beast. This has lead to systematic repression of those with the condition and often times killings. This epitomizes the extreme nature of the Telken. Kind and Rational to a fault on one end and Cruel and Fanatical on the other.

Dex stretched as he got read to head out to the Station. It had been several months since their arrival on Helios from Telkara. Dex had stole them away on a freighter using his technical skills to maks their life signs among the livestock being transported. However they were discovered upon arrival to Helios. Dex was afraid he and his brother Nile would be sent back. But Captain Rontelous intervened. Seeing potential in Dex's technical skills and recognizing there was more to the situation than meets the eye he helped them out. Dex had explained they were fleeing their father on the homeworld. Their father had sought to gain political office but with one of his sons being an Albino his chances weren't good. His father had made plans to perform a ritual killing on the ice. Dex discovered this and the two fled to the Equatorial region and from there off world. Niles himself had been sullen over the situation. He'd always tried to gain his parents approval. Their mother gave it often but had passed on years ago. Their father couldn't see Nile's creative gifts. He couldn't see past his faults. Albino, short, weak, continence issues, and like Dex lack of interest in the Holy Text. Dex didn't care though. They now had Helios citizenship. Their father couldn't touch them now. Dex had a good job in the Cyber department of the Helios Defense force. Niles was doing good in his school work. He didn't have to worry too much about the sun here. A sunscreen was enough even on the brightest days.

"Alright lil bro I gotta get going. Ron will be over in about 20. Anything you want me to grab for ya on the way back home tonight?" Dex asked his lil bro as he readied to leave.

"Hmmmm. Could you get another case of that Kinki juice stuff? And ya know I could stay home myself. Ron doesn't need to come over on his day off." Niles said not wanting to be a burden on anyone.

"Alright I'll pick it up for ya. And Ron insisted. Sides what if you need a change huh baby bro?" Dex teased gently and ruffled his hair.

"Fine. Hehe. Have a great day Bro." Nile smiled up at him as he left.

"You too. And both of you behave." Dex laughed waving as he left for the day.
