Description "And yet, one good deed does not weight up a life of bitterness and hatred... "

"I know."

Cedric/Elyon. I was almost about to call this piece "Confrontation", but decided against it.

- Rant coming up, beware -

W.I.T.C.H is a childhood addiction of mine. A while ago I found the comics on the attic and reread them, wondering what happened to Cedric after arc I. All right, so I WAS right that he wasn't fully evil, which makes him all the more awesome badguy in my eyes, but his death was totally uncalled for! Why do all my favorite characters die? Why!?

Also, I don't normally support non-canon pairings, (try to tell me Seph/Cloud isn't canon! Try!) but this is a rare exception. Cedric/Elyon is my OTP, and yes, I -know- Cedric/Orube (Miranda?) is canon. It's a brilliant pairing, but I just happen to like Elyon better, and she -did- have a crush on him in the beginning. Furthermore, Cedric/Elyon opens up for teh drama. I'm pretty sure the people of Meridian would love their queen to be with snakeboy who used to kick their asses, and Elyon would of course trust him immediately!

If you wonder why Cedric doesn't look like Cedric from the Jetix show, it is because I used the COMICS and MANGA as reference. Jetix -raped- the show. Raped the design of the characters and the plot as well. I've never been so pissed when it comes to fandom. They must hire braindead monkeys for animators over there. Or perhaps it's just "too gay" to have a bookwormy (tee hee, worm!) villain who is physically weak.

Oh yeah, and in case you wonder, Cedric is a naga... when he feels like it.

Ps. I screwed up the photoshop work again midways... no big surprise there... apologies for my own art. >_0

I don't know how I like this couple, but I love the way you drew the picture. I can kind of see how they might wind up as a sort of love interest for each other, the way you draw it.

I say that you look like you've improved on computer coloring.. maybe its me. Who knows. But I like the facial expressions. A friend and I were just discussing how noone draws facial expressions very often.. or they are to slight to even notice.
so good job. ^^

Don't talk to me about improving and art... it makes me down, so I guess it's you. xD Thanks for the positive feedback though ~ as always. I love expressive art - and by that I mean scenes - so I oughta practice all that stuff more. Portrait-ish art is easy, but doesn't say much. I want to paint emotions, without going van Gogh and splatterpaint.

Painting emotions knows no limit..
I love to paint/draw symbolism in my pictures though.. I should to it more often..

I thought I replied to this but apparently not. And I said a lot too.

I think painting is a lot harder and easier at the same time.

Hey, this is pretty nice. *Supports the ship*

And I kinda agree with you on the TV show. I wouldn't really say 'raped', but it certainly can't hope to match with the comics and manga.

And weren't Elyon's eyes supposed to be blue? (Not sure though. It's always looked a bit blue/greenish to me)

Anyways, this is worth a fav.

Ow, thank you for the fav! I'm honored.

The show is truly awful. There is so much I could have said about it, but I think going for "childishfied" would sum my opinion pretty much. Back when I read the comics, I already felt that there was too much stereotypized teenage drama in between the good parts, but Jetix managed to make all of it lame. Both Phobos and Cedric lost their depth as characters and became the ultimate maniac badguys, and the plot is completely random.

I've seen your gallery by the way. Long live Elyon - she is still my favorite female character in W.I.T.C.H

No problem.

Season 1 is okay though (but really nothing more than that), but yeah, especially the season 2 plot seemed random and weird. I can probably go on for hours how I can't stand Corny's twisted priorities (preffering to watch a movie over saving lives), but I'm guessing most people will understand my point pretty quickly.
And yeah, Phobos and Cedric pretty much seemed to just do what they did 'for kicks'. I completely missed Cedric's wish to become a murmerer and Phobos' desire to inherit Elyon's birthright (which I think is implied in the fourth arc). And to be honest, I really loved how Phobos held off his first appearance until issue #6 (and even then, he wasn't fully shown). Gave him a more mysteroius and dangerous feel, I suppose.

Could rant on for quite a bit, but I won't.

Thanks for your support! Long live Elyon indeed!

Heh, Cornelia is even more retarded in the show that she is in the comics (and I didn't like her attitude in the comics either, but at least she seemed a bit less self-centered.) But hey, if you ask me, they made Elyon an airhead in the show as well. Sure the girl is naïve, but not plainly stupid. Though I guess nothing beats Cedric... why on -earth- did they change his looks so much? Stuffed shirt in pants!? Whawhat!? I've always seen him as part monster, part elegance itself – a trait he had to possess to be able to charm Elyon. Now if I had seen the show without knowing the comics, I’d say she had a truly bad taste.

Huff... fangirl rant. Apologies.

misterj02 In reply to Light-Child [2008-06-10 17:28:46 +0000 UTC]

No appologies neccesary.

Pretty much everyone's personality was exeggerated by 258% in the show. (I mean: Taranee's pretty timid, but not outright cowardly) and agreed on TV Elyon. In the comics, she outright said she hated the WITCH in their faces, and posed more as an enemy, while on TV she's scared that she was 'too hard on them' for saying "Go away". *Eyeroll*

TV Cedric looks old. The comics one could say he's a teen, and some people would believe it no problemo. And I'm missing some affection between TV Cedric and TV Elyon. They really seem more like good friends, instead of having deeper interrest in one another.
And I'm not even gonna START talking about the inclusion of something like Blunk. He might've been the TV show's biggest flaw (especially since he had the tendacy to appear at least once per episode.)

But yeah, I probably talk too much.

Well, I personally think it's a culture thing. Cedric was like taken from an Asian manga/anime - and that kind of character is frowned upon in our culture. So I think they had to make him less... appealing. It's just my theory, but also remember that it's a childen's show. It's like... a princess is supposed to be with a prince, not with a snake-badguy. Think of all the little girls who identify themselves with Elyon.

... Perhaps I'll write a fanfic about this pairing or something. *ponder* I'm too damn old for this, but the two are just so fun.

Haha, you dislike Blunk? I actually thought he was amusing. Or rather - the combination of Blunk and Caleb. Yeah, Caleb is the -real- comic relief in the show, but I doubt it was intended.

I love discussing fandom and could go on forever, so don't worry about talking. Ps, there doesn't happen to be a site where you can download the comics scans?

You're probably right. I'm probably having trouble identifying the target age of anything that doesn't face the TV screen, asking the audience how a lion sounds, or where they can find balloons or something. You know... The 3- 'educative' shows... -_-;

Anyway, I still think that Cedric looks like more of a prince than Caleb. I mean: sure, one's a giant snake monster, but the other is a veggie! And it might just be me, but the Elyon/Caleb ship seems a bit forced to me. Caleb/Corny really had more drama and affection in every way.

I once tried writing a fanfic, though I've decided not to publish (or finish for that matter) it, because I'm a horrible writer. >_< Really. I stopped about halfway through because it certainly can't manage to keep my interrest (and I wrote it myself. Imagine that.)

Disliking is putting it rather kindly. In season 2 Blunk was okay (he was actually useful in a pinch), but I couldn't stand him in season 1. After episode 3, the 'Blunk screws up' jokes got old. But it's true about Caleb though. Not sure, but maybe it WAS intended. After all, Caleb just kept ranting about buckets and oxes for his Meridian customs.
But yeah: I appreciate Caleb's efforts to be a hero, but I can't really say I like him. I don't DISlike him, but I don't like him either.

Okay, thanks! You probably noticed I can go on forever too.
And give me a moment. I'll look.

Here again! Take a peek at these

Unless I missed some stuff, those can provide the audience with comic scans of issues #1 - #68. (Some of them are translated, but that shouldn't matter too much)
So yeah. It's gold.

A veggie, huh? *laughs* IMO the comics-Caleb should be strangled with Cornelia's vines. And Caleb/Elyon is probably the worst thing that ever happened. Now, I'm no Cornelia fan OR Caleb fan, but I found it cute that they were supposedly "meant to be." She even returned him to life!

So what happens? First Prince Charming breaks up with her because of her looks - then falls in love with her best friend. I'm a girl, and I would never want the ex of my best friend! I don’t think any true friend would, so I personally find it awful that Elyon fell for that slimy “hero.” They probably wanted to add some realism into the story, but I don’t think fairywings is too realistic anyway, so why not have a happily-ever-after relationship as well?

Yeah… in a way I’m glad I stopped reading after arc III, as there is a lot of things I dislike in the later volumes. But speaking of Cedric again… have you noticed how he avoids showing Elyon his true form in the show? And how most of the citizens in Meridian look human? In the comics Elyon really had no issues with Cedric’s… shall we say … reptile side, but in the show it’s almost as if ugly/different beings can only be evil. I guess the only positive aspect of the show is Caleb, who is really a parody of a hero.

Thank you SO much for the links. I owe you! I really want to read the Cedric/Orube parts to catch up on his personality before I write any fanfic… obviously an AU one… and a truly sappy one. *blushes in shame*

Well, murmerers are plantlife after all. But yeah, I really do think the Caleb/Elyon ship is forced. I've heard something about a poll in Italy being the reason behind Caleb's and Corny's breakup?
Now I've heard of people who use the Corny/Caleb special as 'evidence' that they weren't meant to be, but one half of the story (Caleb's) is rather far fetched and unlikely to happen in my opinion. So I suppose I can't quite think of it as anything else than just forced.

It's discrimination in the show. >_<
To be honest, I kinda liked the idea of Meridian's population being primarilly lizardoids. But then again, it might be because I think most lizards are pretty cool. Also, I kinda liked how Elyon allowed Cedric to stroke her cheek with his tail in issue 5(?). It looked pretty sweet and all. (Another point for the Cedric/Elyon ship)

I'm still following the comics, but I doubt anything can beat the first two arcs. Arc 4 is okay, but really only because Phobos, Cedric and Elyon all make returns in some way. (Those three are my favorite characters after all)
I found the show enjoyable, but I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone. It's just so different, and season 2 is outright weird.
Though I have to say, the voice acting was pretty good. Most voices fit the character pretty well. Possible exception being Cedric, but I think his voice suited his TV design well enough anyway.

And no problem! Glad to help.

Haha, we have the same favorite characters. I liked Phobos too, especially in the comics. He really pulled off the elegant but totally false villain well. In addition to that, his design is pretty good. But Cedric is more fun. You may not believe it, but as mentioned, I had the feeling he would return later sometime and perhaps swap sides. I don’t know… it could have been because the writers managed to make readers feel sorry for him. I’m just sorry he didn’t end up with Elyon. I’m a big fan of yin-yang couples, and I don’t think it’s possible to have more different characters than Elyon and Cedric together. That being said – what made you support this ship anyway? *curious*

The voice acting is surprisingly good indeed, but I pictured Cedric with a brighter, quieter voice. … Seductive perhaps?

Phobos is awesome. He's the kind of villian who can come back for more when you least expect it.
That being said, I support the idea that Phobos might return in the future sometime, despite everyone's claims he's 'dead' (Really, he tossed himself in a bottomless pit, and thus might be able to return. Plus, there's the hourglass to considder)
And it's too bad I can't say the same about Cedric. It's like, they start to put him up in a dramatic way, and then all of a sudden, he gets zapped for hardly any reason.

I have no clue how I started supporting the pair though. Might be because I once played Cedric in a WITCH RPG. But really, it's also the only ship besides the Elyon/Matt ship (which I've heard nothing about) that seems likely. I mean, sure Elyon/Caleb is actually happening too, but I don't think those two share good chemistry.
I mean: Elyon and Cedric are the ones complimenting each other, and saying they (completely and without question) trust each other...

*sniff* ... Tissues please. I just finished reading arc V after rushing through arc IV (I'll read it properly later) and must say things make a bit more sense now. I have to disagree with you when it comes to Cedric’s death though; it really gave the story an emotional punch, so it wasn’t “for no reason” And to be honest, Cedric asked for it. They did an excellent job keeping him IC that way, with his thoughts of revenge and all, and yet managed to show a hidden, lighter side of him. Also liked how Orube was the only one who truly seemed to care when he died. Poor girl, I think the writers like to abuse that character particularly much. *laugh*
Gotta admit though… the later volumes are far more angsty than the first two arcs. More emotions, more drama. Though story-wise, they can’t beat arc I.

… Did you just say Matt/Elyon? Y-you know, I’m not even going to ask. I’m going by a strict canon-pairing policy here and I already feel bad for liking Cedric/Elyon… especially because Cedric/Orube was more awesome than I thought. But you know what? I’ll whip you up something Elyon-related as thanks for the comics and the discussion. (I like to talk… have you noticed?) It will probably involve Cedric too – and a bit of le drama… I also like to think that I’m a much better writer than artist (that ain’t too hard to be >.> but my idea might be hard to pull off decently. We’ll see.

So you think Phobos is coming back? More people seem to think that. If you’ve seen PotC, this may give you a laugh. [link]

Hahaha! Pirate Phobos! I laughed when I spotted the skeletons of old enemies and the Avatar.
But yeah, I wouldn't put it past Phobos to return for more. Unlike Cedric, Ludmoore and Nerissa, nobody saw him die or vanish into nothing, and unlike Ari, he didn't become a good-hearted person in the end.
And like I said; there's still a Phobos lurking inside a broken hourglass.

For some reason, it seems good guys (or girls) never really care about the bad guys. It's like: 'They're evil. Ignore them'. Come to think of it, they even did that to Elyon in the first arc, didn't they?
But yeah, at least Cedric stayed in-character by wanting vengeance and stuff.

Yes, I said Matt/Elyon. She had a crush on him in the first few volumes, didn't she? But you're right. Matt is probably going to stick with Will or something.
But if you think that's bad, then you've probably never heard of the Victoryship I support. (Phobos/Mandy. Based on the episode V is for Victory). I still get WTH's even to this day. (Although admittedly, I mainly support it due to it being a funny and unlikely thought. )

Well, I don't think you owe me any thanks, really. Fans need to help each other out, right? But yeah, I like discussing stuff too, so I don't mind talking. (I still think I talk too much though.)

Light-Child In reply to misterj02 [2008-06-14 22:51:30 +0000 UTC]

Didn't they kill the hourglass one as well?

I think Cornelia kept caring for Elyon in the first arc. That's how they managed to make her see the truth anyway. The other girls didn't know her that well and probably didn't bother. Cedric though... he really seemed to suffer because he had no real allies and was kicked around all the time... *cough* Ow but this is really bad. What should just have been a "good ol' times" moment turned out into a real addiction... I’m even fangirling again.

I haven't seen all episodes yet, so I can't say anything about Phobos/Mandy. (The Mandy that was Matt's childhood friend?) It sounds a bit off, but I guess fans can make everything work. I've read a Cedric/Irma fic and thought it wasn't half-bad. As long as there is some logic behind a ship, I can live with it. What I hate most is when characters get together for no apparent reason.

Hmm... suddenly Phobos finds out he’s always been in love with the Oracle...

... Wait, that could --- 0_o I’ll shut up now.

In "V is for Victory", they reluctantly had to protect Phobos from Nerissa, so Caleb, Matt and Blunk were all glamored as Phobos and Phobos was glamored as Matt. At one point he kissed Mandy's hand before she and Will had a swim-off (partly or entirely to tick off Will, who didn't know it wasn't Matt because the guys didn't let the girls in on the glamor plan until the end).

misterj02 In reply to Light-Child [2008-06-15 08:55:37 +0000 UTC]

That's one way to put it, though I personally think they just killed the manifestation of Phobos in the hourglass and stuff. (He wasn't really clear on the matter, but I think he hinted towards himself still living in the hourglass. Not sure though). And there's still some sand left in it, opening up the door to that 'hobos returns' theory.

True. Corny kept caring for Elyon. But I clearly remember an issue (#10, I think. With the four dragons), where Taranee started shouting about not talking to Elyon because she betrayed them and stuff, before blowing up an entire house. (I'll have to check this for the details though.)
I kinda felt bad for Cedric when Phobos called the Kandrakarian(?) guards on him. You'd think that of all people, Phobos would treat Cedric accordingly...

-_-; Sorry if I spoiled the 'good ol' times' moment for you... I didn't mean to.

Basically, I came up with the Phobos/Mandy ship after watching the episode a few times, and realising Matt's quote near the end. ('You kissed Mandy!?'
And yeah, it's Matt's old friend Mandy. Like I said, it's more of a ship for fun, rather than for real.
