I was struggling with the latest Chain Pong round - & needed to bump up the interest level.  Perfect opportunity to trying out the Monte Carlo render engine.
For comparison, here's the same render using the standard render method:
Definitely a smooth & crisp result with the MC.  Being a total noob to this, I didn't realize that Monte Carlo never stops on its own.  You have to decide when it's done.  If a more experienced hand has any advice on this, please chime in.
Sooo, this version got to run longer than necessary - 21 hours of processing.  Probably could have stopped it after 5 or 6.

The regular is irregular in comparison   I probably could clean that standard version up in other ways but for a one-to-one, same size render, the MC is pretty amazing.  Just takes forever.

Maybe a better comparison would be to compare the very best that you can do with each rendering engine instead.  Just give a reasonable time limit for the MC render.  I might try that... someday.

Most welcome! Since a short while ago, have been rendering at 2x or 3x for a 2048px uploading size. Improvements, particularly at 3x really justify the longer renders, which in most cases are still very reasonable.

It is amazing - I'm hooked.  I set-up a render to run over night at work.  Why waste idle computer cycles?
Now I want to re-render choice favorites using MC to see the difference.

Yes, I think that is true. I have very little experience to say with certainty.   In this case, after 7 hours it was just as good as 21.

Me too - a note about that somewhere would have been nice   And a counter to tell you what pass it's on.  There is a 'time elapsed' counter but...
