It will most likely come out a year or so after FF15. The demo for that is out so it's probably getting high time to release FF15 next year or something.

Yes, Square announced they are working on a full-blown remake of the game. It'll be for the Playstation at first, and then be released to other systems later. Although they only have a CGI teaser movie, it wasn't playable or anything, so it's probably at least years away.

...Although the Bravely Default games for the 3DS seem more like the natural evolution of FF than the last few console FF games, and they are very good.

Really the original FF7 game is kind of odd and unfinished seeming (unlike some of the other old FF games). I have to guess whatever they do could be an improvement.

considering how many times square, then square enix (has anyone else been calling them 'squeenix'?) argued that they'd never do a remake and now it has remake plastered allover it...I just find it funny... But yeah, given their record for releasing games from ps2 and on I'd say this game will likely take forever, and once the release date is announced they'll probabably surpass it and wind up coming out for it on ps5...and calling it FFXVII

It being on Playstation 5 seems possible. Some sites suggest a Playstation 5 could be released in 2017 or 2018. That's only 2-3 years away.

I don't see how they can be sure it'll be for Playstation 4 at all (versus just being for the whatever is the current Playstation at the time). It seems like they've only announced they've recently started working on it, and it could take a number of years. Some sites are predicting a Playstation 5 in 2017 or 2018. It would have to come out in less than 2-3 years to beat that possibility.
But I agree. I hope it's released for as many systems as possible. PC seems likely, considering they've been releasing the Final Fantasy 13 games (I think there are three of them) for PC.

There was a story about this on a gaming website, and I was surprised that most of the people who responded both agreed with the idea, and some almost seemed irritated that it wasn't sooner. They said that 4K resolution TVs are going to be more common by then, and the big three are going to want systems that can produce 4K video, especially in technology-hungry asia. Also many of the people responded worried that Sony might imitate the Playstation 3, which was around for 7 years, which is now thought to have been way too long for some reason.
I'd guess we'll see the PS5 announced in 2017, and then released in the fall of 2018. It will have been five years since the PS4.
I agree though the systems seem to be being released far too quickly. Part of the problem is that they are so expensive when they come out, they aren't backwards compatible with the older systems, and games take 4-5 years to make considering the graphics possible on these systems. You buy a system, you go through a period where they are only rushed games and games released for older systems. Then you start to get a trickle of AAA games for maybe 2-3 years. Then the next system is announced, and games either are pushed instead to that new system, or they're the last games for the old system. So for that 5 year period you're lucky to get 2-3 years of quality games.
Aside from a 2DS, I don't have any of the current systems. The generation before, I only have a PS3 and an long-broken-ish Wii (that started having major problems early in Skyward Sword).
They need to change the way they make their systems. Have them both backward and forward compatible. Like I'd be able to buy a PS4 game and play it on my PS3. It wouldn't look as good, but it would play it. And then the PS5 could play both PS4 and PS3 games, maybe at a better resolution or something. That way you wouldn't have to have just the newest system, or you having to buy remastered versions of PS2 or PS3 games to play them on the PS4.
If you're unhappy with Sony about a possible PS5, consider that there are -rumors- that Nintendo will replace the 3DS and the Wii U next fall with something called the NX, 2 years earlier than the lifespan of their previous systems. That the games announced at E3 are the last games for those systems by Nintendo. If that happens, the Wii U might be the first Nintendo system to not have an original main-series Zelda game for it, and only the second to not have a Metroid. The 3DS also for Zelda will have had only remakes, a sequel to Link to the Past, and a Four Swords-like game.

I will just enjoy my Xbox one for a while I guess I hope I get nine or so years out of it like I did my 360.
That said adoption of higher res tv sis always faster in Asia then here but in the past the resolution of game systems always lags behind.

MS once said they thought the Xbox One could last ten years, although if Sony releases something new, they almost have to do the same. Like with the Wii U, if one lags far behind, it won't get many or any crossplatform games.
Also, unlike HD, a person might only notice a small difference between HD and 4k unless the screen is really close to you (unlikely with a TV), or the TV is really big (like 60"-70"+) And then 8k TVs are being shown at computer shows now.
I think this race ahead graphically has to slow down or stop eventually. You have games taking many times longer to make, and are much more expensive. Then you have systems where their lifespan isn't increasing equally. Games already are announced and you have no idea if they'll be on that system, or the next system. That kind of idea seems like it would have been unimaginable even for the Gamecube, PS2, Xbox era.

I'd guess they'll change the game pretty significantly, to make the one who dies perish near the end, or you'll be able to bring her back to life only to die again. That's what I'd do anyway. The game seemed famously unfinished, there's no reason to stick exactly to the original game. As long as it's similar, with similar characters, and it fits in with all of the stuff they've made since, and it ends the same way.

They've only announced they are working on a sequel, not that it's anywhere near being complete. Considering how vague they were, and also Kingdom Hearts III, I'm assuming no one will see this game for 4-5 years. All they had was a brief teaser video. Even if it was playable, it might still be a year or more away because it's an RPG (and the level design and voice acting takes so long).
