Before Natalia, or anybody else, could react, Adam raised his sword and brought it down swiftly. Lucian’s bloodcurdling scream of pain echoed through the night, sending needles down Natalia’s neck. He fell down on his side, curled up in agony. Adam whipped his blade, sending a line of blood flecks onto the pavement. He turned again, and pulled a half-conscious Lucian up by the ear with one hand. With his sword, he picked up the limp, bloody tail, and crouched down so he was eye-level with Lucian.
“Oh, no, no, no,” Adam said mercilessly, raising up Lucian’s severed tail for him and the rest of the world to see. “I don’t want you losing consciousness yet. There’s no satisfaction in removing your ears that way. I want all of you to see what happens when you defy the White Fang and try to stop the wheels of revolution! This filthy inbred mutant seems to be willing to die resisting us and defending humans, so I am going to make sure he dies as a human!”
