Personality:

                    Meek | Distrustful | Empathic | Naive | Sensitive | Amiable | Calculating | Dishonest | Vengeful

Oath was born to the bottom of the ladder and learned her place quickly. She was the omega, the 'punching bag' of sorts for her pack. An important role passed from one sibling to the next. Oath became better at the game than her siblings had however. She knew how to study them - how to anticipate how they'd react. She would reach to them with her words, understanding their feelings. That was how she learned to lie instead of just submit. It started as little story twists, insignificant changes until she tested just how far she could take it. She was naive in thinking it would mean nothing, that there wouldn't be consequences and still holds to many of the lies she's told. Often wolves who meet her don't meet a true version of Oath. Each wolf could even come to know a different Oath than the last but she is careful to make sure her lies don't cross.

Oath, while unhappy as the lowest ranking member of her pack, doesn't seek power. In her younger years, before her family's murder, she sought to be left alone in peace but now she seeks someone she can confess her sins to, to free her weighted soul, but a fear of retaliation and rejection keeps her lips sealed. Oath is sensitive to the words and actions of others, taking many things personally when they are not at all. She lets it build until it reaches a boiling point and she wishes to retaliate in some way. Seldom is she the one delivering her vengeance. More often she'll tell others about the crimes committed against her, an action learned at the end of her home pack, and let it play out from there.

She became distrustful by her own undoing. If she could lie then what of other things she'd heard was true? Another wolf could just as easily spin her a tall tale. Still, a small part of her isolated by her own lies softens when others tell her of painful moments in their past (true or not) and she sits with them, telling stories of her past (based in truth but twisted carefully). She feigns what should be a bonding moment with her lies, keeping others still at a distance.

A true spectacle to see is when someone challenge's her lie. Despite her carefulness, every now and then Oath slips up. When those times occur and her stories are questioned she immediately becomes defensive. She would rather defend the lie than come clean, believing herself to be in too deep. Worse are the times when she must choose between the lie and another wolf. She will choose the lie even if it means distancing herself from the other wolf to the point of completely avoiding acknowledgement of their existence she will do it.

History:

Oath was born in a land of water - or rather a pack which held water in high regard. In her home lands in the Elkhorn Peak Mountains it rained often - near daily in the hotter months. The day she came into the world, gentle rains fell from dark clouds above. It was something her parents took as a promising sign for what would be their final litter. The young she wolf was born to the Atcha pack. It was a small pack consisting of herself, her parents, and four older siblings (the youngest of which still had at least a year and a half on her at birth).

Her father, Dakota, took a back seat in much of the pack politics - content and complacent with their safe spot in the mountains. Her mother, Kaya, made more decisions and took more of the pack's leadership on including carrying out ceremonies as were the pack customs. Her siblings (three sisters and one brother) aided their mother in much of her tasks though on occasion her brother would set off with their father to learn what he had to share. One day her brother would have to leave them.

As Oath grew, she was shown her place in the world. She was the omega, the youngest and smallest of the pack and often the subject of tension relief. It was a sort of right of passage of their pack. All but her oldest sibling endured the same treatment, thinking nothing of it, but Oath took it personally. She eventually learned how to redirect the aggression - with lies. At first it felt odd to say them, to spin something in a way that benefited her but eventually they began to come naturally to her. There was just a touch of guilt each time but she learned to swallow it.

Once Oath had made it to nearly her third year it was clear there would be no more siblings. Her parents were growing too old. But she didn't want to always be the Omega and their constant tension grated her nerves. She was always on edge and irritated.

It reached a boiling point when a conflict arose between her father and brother resulting in her brother running off. Dakota was still fuming and Oath tragically crossed his path, sneaking a piece of rabbit he'd stashed away for himself. Rather than submitting as she usually did, she bared her teeth at him leading to a scuffle that drew blood. The sudden pain scared her more than Dakota towering over her and she wriggled free, taking off downhill with her tail tucked tight beneath her.

She left her parent's territory, entering lands unfamiliar to her. It was there she crossed paths with two lone males with blood trickling down her leg. One took an interest, seeming to be alarmed by the state in which she crossed their paths. "Are you alright?"

Oath panted, fearing both her family and these strangers. "I was attacked by the pack in the mountains - they-" It slid out. The lie. And the two wolves fell for it.

"They kept you captive?" One interrupted and despite her heart pounding in her chest, knowing it was a lie, she nodded unable to speak. She was frozen in place even as they zoomed past her and up the mountains. She did not follow. She merely looked back, mouth agape. Where were they going?

--

Oath kept away until just before dawn the next day. She'd found a dug out hole beneath some tree roots to sleep in but the distant sound of her name brought her back to consciousness. It was panicked and familiar.

She scrambled out of her space into the rain, ears alert. It wasn't long until the form of her mother appeared, running down the mountain with one of her sisters in tow. "OATH!" She cried out when she spotted her daughter. "Oath, We have to go, our territory is no longer safe."

She was shoved forward by her mother as she tried to make sense of what was happening. "Why?"

"Lone males-" Her mother's voice hitched as she tried to tell her but she didn't need to. Oath knew. It was the two from the other day.

"They killed father and our sisters." Her single, surviving sister told her with a shaking voice. She was riddled with cuts and wounds from another wolf.

"O-oh." It was all Oath could manage as she began to put two and two together. They'd taken over her lands to save her, a false crusade. Freed from captives that didn't exist. She had ordered the deaths of her own family.

Her silence was taken as shock and her mother embraced her to comfort Oath before taking the lead. "Come, we'll find somewhere new."

Oath followed though she did not feel as though she was in control of her legs. The rain began falling harder as the sun rose somewhere behind the clouds. They were heading into territory even her mother hadn't traversed. It was full of overflowing creeks, steep sides and slick rocks. Leaves fell as they were knocked from their branches by the heavy rain. The sound of a tree falling and low rumble brought the three to a stop.

"A land fall." Her mother mumbled, "RUN!!"

Oath was shoved forward hard as she scrambled ahead of her family. Her paws flew beneath her body, feeling as though they barely scraped the ground as she went. Behind them mud and water toppled over the cliff edge and she could hear more coming above the cliff they ran beside. Suddenly a snarl cut the air followed by a yelp. When she cast a glance back, it was one of the male wolves again. He'd captured her sister and kept her pinned.

Oath's mother stopped, torn between keeping Oath safe and helping her daughter. When she realized her mother wasn't following her anymore she stopped to look back. She feared they'd realize she knew these wolves. Before her mother could make a decision a huge tree fell, breaking on the cliff and falling between her and Oath. The other male wolf appeared before the young she wolf.

"This way!" He beckoned her on. Once her eyes locked with the males, she couldn't look back. Oath could feel the heat of her other's eyes on her back. She took off behind the male, letting him lead her to safety.

They didn't stop running til they'd reached flatter lands. "What about-" Oath wasn't sure how to address the other wolf. Was he a brother? A friend?

"He'll find us." He assured her. "You're free to go where you want."

And Oath did, eventually finding Sparrowhawk Island at low tide and taking up residence there - only leaving during low tide when prey was too scarce on her little island.

Extra:

- A little on the thin side at the beginning due to having a hard time hunting.

- Mother and sister could be alive and could be playable characters (please just dm me first)

- Both male loners could be playable characters too (the one who really helps Oath could have an excellent plot going with her)

- When she speaks of the lone males saving her and her family dying, she speaks of them as if two separate events in different locations to keep even the lone males in the dark about the truth.
