Yes, the smell was rather intense and very peculiar.
Wherever we saw leather afterwards, we immediately recognized the smell again.

I believe the people that work in these places are considered the lowest of the low because of the smell that clings to them. Some really terrible things are used in the leather tanning trade. Did you know that the very best ladies gloves were tanned using dog poo. Small boys were sent out into the streets to find it.

Nein, es ist sicher kein leichter Arbeitsplatz. Die Gerber laufen barfuss in den Farbtrögen herum und der Gestank war selbst auf die Distanz enorm. Wahrlich kein job, den man gerne machen möchte.
