The common harpypuff is an ornithological mystery. Although it is well known that harpies prefer screaming over the more classical variations of birdsong, the common harpypuff is the only known variety that has evolved into exclusively screaming obscenities.
A little something for the fun of it, squeezed in between commissions. I wanted to draw a tiny harpy based on one of those little birds that get all fluffy when it's cold and then it kind of rolled from there. The plumage is loosely based on woodchip shrike though there are also bits from the harpy eagle (of course) and some other things. Wouldn't be much of a shrike without some mean thorn weapons, would she now!

Well, this is the best harpy ever - the obscenity bit both made my day and made me laugh like an idiot! I can just see young couple going for a romantic walk in the winter park, enjoying the atmosphere and gushing over occasional chirp pf the birds and in the best, most tender and loving moment this little terror start vocalising

Ooh that's a great question. Now I'm picturing a human researcher being baffled by a harpypuff looking like it's very energetically screaming something while making no 'audible' sound.
