Description
1942 - Japanese losses in the Battle of Midway are moderate - they lose 2, and not 4, aircraft carriers. The decision to convert the Shinano (the last of the Yamato-class battleships) into one is thus never taken. Japan's fleet retains more of its operational capacity which makes Allied advances in the Pacific slower.
1943 - Germans emerge victorious from the battle of Stalingrad. However, it is a Pyrrhic victory and Germany will fail to secure the Caucasian oil fields. Still, the Soviet counteroffensive is delayed and Allies reach Berlin 6 months later than in our timeline. The Soviet offensive in Manchuria is consequently delayed as well.
1945 - Massive oil fields are discovered by the Japanese in Manchuria.
1946 - With the Manhattan project still failing to deliver operational weapons, the decision to conventionally invade the Japanese Islands is taken by President Truman.
