Redraw of this old page here:
Why a redraw? Well, as some of you maybe know, I am against the thing of redrawing pages just because of the art style. You can nicely see the development in most pages and it is a shame to "destroy" it. I only ever redraw pages when I have to immensly cringe at the storytelling. I never was really the best at storytelling as you probably see int he old pages or even now, but usually it's bearable. In some cases I feel like I do not do my characters justice though, especially in the light of a first impression, which is one of the most important things in character introductions! So I decided to redo Drako's first appearance because, urgh, I cannot read it without jumping out of my chair and running around my room while screaming " NONONONONONONONO!" and pulling my hair. I did not do him any justice in the original pages. Taken, I back then had NO idea where to exactly go with his character since I at this point had JUST changed him completely. Seriously, until the moment I drew the page I was still unsure about his real character, so god bless me for deciding for the more...let's call it respectable version of him. :'D The conversation between him and Sunny is still messy though and it does not read itself fluently. Most especially it threw some very wrong impressions and theories around, which I want to dissolve with this remake. As you see in pages...ohm...I'm too lazy to look it up. Something between page 160 and page 170 (I think?) in this conversation they have this "demon thing" Sunny said when they first met was mentioned. While I agree that this was also a part of the awkward conversation I decided to take it into the remake anyways. I even found a way in which it can logically work fine. I will copy the script into the description of this page then so that it will become more clear. Too much inner situation and thought gets lost in the drawn out versions of the pages, it really is a shame.
Also, for the people who like to search for hints in my comic keep in mind that I am a huge fan of magpies and love to throw these cuties in. I recently found a poem about them which goes like this:
One for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, and four for a boy, five for silver, six for gold, seven for a secret never to be told!
I sadly do not know who this poem is from, but it is a British poem as much as I know. Anyway, I thought why not use it for my comic to make some subtle hints?
So pop quiz: How many magpies can you see in this page (it's really not that hard ) and then try to see what this could mean, especially when you know what is going to happen. Meh, forshadowing to the very next page, Lilafly is tricky again.
And it's late, which means that I should probably shut up. People who are not noctual tend to talk shit after some late hour. I am one of them. *is an early bird*
So good night everyone and I hope you do not mind that I kind of am working on 4 comics at once right now! Trust me, I'd prefer if it would only be ONE comic, it would make things way more easier, but I decided to make the redraws AND the CW comic, so it's my fault. I'll pull through with it!
Plus, I think my drawing style developed greatly in the last 3 years. Back then I worked a lot with the dodge tool because I yet did not find the wonders of the "overlay effect" for lighting, which made a lot of stuff look messy. Plus I did not play with blue and blur effects to make distances and focus apparent. I really love to play with focus currently and through the blur you can easily "cover" crappy looking details. And I use less saturated colors which does not let you et eye cancer when first staring at them.
Overall I think I have improved. My horses also do not look like ponies anymore! But what do you guys think?
Thanks for reading/watching, I really appreciate your support!
