A picture I've had practically finished (short of shading and light) since November '13. Decided it was finally time... and wow, I see improvement. Meager glow turned into maxi glow and it's still growing. I bet we hit the sparkle tier somewhere near the end of this year.
Does anyone know how to draw magic and effects? When it comes to this shit I'm hopeless. Don't be fooled, this ball o' sparkly wool was the best I could manage. I mean IT GLOWS, what more do you want? But seriously, gotta learn this shit.
Title is a song from the Chess musical I listened to while drawing.

I usually use different layer modes on SAI or Photoshop o.o on SAI I use the luminosity layer mode, but PS has a lot more of layer modes to create glowy magic stuffs.

The problem is not how to GET the stuff to glow, I can manage that pretty well on my own. The thing is, nothing really teaches you how to draw stuff that looks good, only how to do it. And, ya know, I can paint four different fireballs in her hand alright, but none of them will look the part : I Guess it's just sit-down-and-study time.

Ahhhh yes, yes, I do see what you mean now. I just didn't realize because that is litterally how I learned everything I know I guess that's the only way to learn stuff in art. Q.Q;; sorry.

just try experimenting with different techniques. i like what it looks like so far. Try one or a mixture of these:
- making your own brush presets
- using the smudge or liquify tools
- mixing in photography using blending modes
I've learned all these in class. note me if you want to learn any of em

Yea. I really oughta get me some more recent PS, the one I have is PS CS2 and it's really laggy, not to mention pretty bad realtime scaling. I hope the newer versions allow clipping folders tho :c It's so nifty in sai.
