Description A Teen Sesshomaru practices his "Whip of Light" on some demon crows. Dad looks on from a distance...

Brush Pen, Photoshop Coloring

There is so much about this pic that I love, I'm tempted to put it in my professional portfolio. I've descided that I need a little more action sequences in there. And a midday scene is a bit of a departure for me.

The movement through this is terrific. I'm glad I stumbled into your gallery through today's Club Inuyasha posting, I tend to skim through the Groups postings rarely, since the quality level is far from constant. But I'm finding your entire gallery to be a real pleasure to view, and not just the fanart. Your original works are beautiful, I just haven't had the time to view them all yet XD

Your fanart really stands out from the other IY fanarts I've seen... you let your own style into the images, and your images themselves are more original. Like this! ^x^ I've seen a gajillion Sesshoumaru's just staring over his shoulder in his usual garb, but this is the first crow-hunting young Sesshoumaru I've seen. Hey, it's the most active I've ever seen him in a fanart, period XD ... or anywhere really... He's a bit into conservation of movement and words when he grows up, isn't he? XD

I don't think so, when he's not so preoccupied with staring out into the distance, I think he moves quite a bit when fighting. Look at the fight scenes in Inuyasha movie 3, he seems pretty spry there (though not as duck and roll as this, but then again, he's not wearing his ominious fur stole here. That thing must really hamper movement).

Lol yeah, no flipping around with the fluffy... don't want an embarrassing tangle moment to come of it XD

And what a good excuse to watch the movie again... studying Sesshoumaru ^x^ I'm less familiar with the movies than the episodes, where he barely has to do anything to defeat an opponent. Of course, how often does he run across a real challenge? ^x^

You know, the episodes kill me, because the animation is pretty cheap (which is why you see a lot of still scenes and rehashing of old episodes). I mean, its GOOD, pretty and all, but still cheap in the cells.

True, but that makes the more beautifully detailed movies all the more enjoyable. Sadly, the episodes running on Cartoon Network are really my only access to InuYasha at this point (and those evil schedulers keept messing it up for Saturdays! I can't watch on Tuesday nights and forget to record >.<. But I plan to suggest to my fiance that he start showering me with the manga for my birthday in February. I've never had enough manga and that's truly an artform ^x^ And then I don't have to keep dying every time Cartoon Network does an IY hiatus and then rewinds the airings back two seasons or MORE @.@

I keep up with the manga (translated) online:
[link]

And for older issues (right up to the first one), just translationas and some images, not the actual scanned manga pages:

The cartoon is pretty much the manga with some filler episodes.

Awesome. I LOVE that action pose. It is awesome. The linework is wonderful, too...It has a very slick, VERY organic, ink look and feel to it. I think it fits the action pose a lot, because the action is a fluid, martial arts move rather than a rough 'n tumble action movie kind of action, so the organic lines work very well with it. The coloring is very interesting and I really like it...The lack of highlights, with only the base color and shadows, is pretty interesting and adds to the feel of the pic somehow...I dunno, but it gives it more of an old Japanese/Asiain ink painting rather than a flashier, modern anime look that again, works well with the mood of the pic being martial arts training. The simple background works well with the pic, too.

Very awesome pic. I love how all the elements work together to establish and solidify the mood of the pic.

The ink look is because I do all my linework in ink (sumi, actually).

The first thing I thought of when I saw this picture (other than 'great action shot' and 'love the colours') was that it reminded me of that part in House of the Moon, and then a little further down I saw that it was inspired by it! coool.
I got that book, btw - the dynamic figure drawing one? It'll be fun to read. Action shots are always an interesting challenge.

Yes, I always liked depictions of S. when he's younger and less assured...I think he was younger in the story, that's why I say "inspired"...Glad you got DFD, it's an awsome book...(and you WOULD like my avatar LOL!)

Thanks for stopping by Lady!

Your portfolio will be great. I'm sure of that. I like this one because is another familiar too, the father looking how his son is improving his skills. Great shot, full of movement and awesome coloured. I like the thing of the light whip, normally we see him just with his sword. Absolutely great.
