Description
Henrietta Lacks should be talked about more.
" Lacks, a Black woman diagnosed with cervical cancer, had tissue taken from her cervix without her consent during a procedure at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1951. With the sample, a doctor at the hospital was able to create the first human cell line to reproduce outside the body.
Lacks died later that year from cancer at the age of 31.
The cell line, now known as HeLa cells, gave scientists the ability to experiment and create life-saving medicine like the polio vaccine, in-vitro fertilization and gene mapping and helped move forward cancer and AIDS research." edition.cnn.com/2021/10/05/us/…
Goth damn, there are more artists to be credited for the resources I used than there is description of the picture! I started drawing this for International Women's Day using Anastasia-berry 's "How to Draw a Feminine Pose" tutorial. #datutorialpose There's more to the picture, but this is the relevant image. I drew my #dandd5thedition character Corbette Silvertongue, a dwarven bard, to demonstrate support for #pcosawareness . She does shave her beard, but only when she feels like it. One of the side effects of PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome) is increased growth of facial hair, and I know of two women whose beards are as luxurious as Corbette's. I would let mine grow, but it's mega itchy when I try.
