She stood in awe,
As a rainbow of butterflies slowly glided down to the earth’s surface.

Their wings glittered in the rays of sunlight that spilled through the cracks of the grey sky.

“So beautiful…”

She breathed
In almost a whisper,

Too afraid to speak out loud,
During such an eerie scene.

Tears flooded from her eyes,

Not gliding, but falling they were,
Gracefully swirling head first into their demise.

The instant their wings touched the soil,
They sparked and ignited.

Flames and then to ash...

…

And all she could do was helplessly watch them fall…
And then die…
