Goodness, that mirrored one is way cool. They're all unique, congratulations.

Thank you! I love how different and unique each one is. They each have their own personality for sure.

I think it's pretty neat that Douglas made some of their plush mirrored like this. I wonder if there was a specific reason for it?

The differences between can be astounding. But when you think of all the little pieces of material that have to come together to create each one, it does make a lot of sense. I guess that's why I am consistently so shocked and impressed that Kosen animals somehow seem to maintain an extremely high level of consistence, even over decades. It really is amazing!

As to the Douglas "mirror animals," I was told that they occasionally occurred due to a worker mistakenly laying the paper pattern piece on the fabric upside down and cutting it out that way, creating an animal perfectly mirrored compared to his "normal" brethren. I have seen this sometimes happen with their old "Made in U.S.A" Lord Titan Lions. How cool that you got a Lohan Wolf like this!

That makes sense, and is a testament to the hand-made quality of their early plush! So cool!

Kosen's quality is fierce. Ha! I too have been blown away by the precision and consistency of their plush. Another reason that I talked myself into purchasing "Lobo". I have not seen him in person; and I am quite certain that he will differ quite a bit from the stock photo color-wise (as does Janina) BUT I know that he will be very finely detailed and beautiful!

I adore the care and craftsmanship that went into the old Made in USA Douglas animals. Their design team is still fantastic obviously, but I can't help but reminisce wistfully on the quality their old plush had.

Ooh, I've been intrigued by the size of that wolf ever since I first found out about him. His legs have always come across as a touch too long to me so I've never sought him out. He is a fair bit rarer than Janina isn't he? I am very excited to see him in your collection and look forward to your photos of him with his family.

Oh, I agree! No one makes plush like they used to, that is for sure. I think that Douglas and Kosen are just about the only ones still on the market who manufactures a good, consistent product. (Even Steiff is hit and miss).

Hence my decision to go ahead with the purchase of this standing wolf! Lobo's overly-long, slender legs are precisely the reason I have shied away from him as well. I am going to hope that he looks more "proportional" in person - He has got to be better constructed than the terrible life-size wolves by Hansa or Piutre. He is, after all, a Kosen! And I have seen nothing less than perfection from all of their plush so far. We will officially be the largest plush I own.

I would really love someday to become a retailer for Kosen... Just so I can touch and cuddle all of their amazing creations! I'd probably be one of the only retainers on the West Coast...

Well, I am eagerly anticipating your photos of him once he's home! He does have a really gorgeous face from the stock photo I've seen of him and I imagine he'll look great with Janina and the pups!

How does one even become a retailer for a German company? I agree, that would be marvelous but it seems tough to do. I was a retailer for Douglas in the mid 2000s and that was an absolute blast but it's hard for me to envision doing that with a German company when I speak little to nothing of their language! That wiking seller on eBay seems to be based in New Jersey so he's an American retailer for Kosen. I wonder if he has a brick and morter store... Ooh, how I'd love to go and see and handle Kosen's line of amazing plush animals in person! Have you ever been so lucky to do that at a shop in the US?

Thank you! I plan to order him early next year. I imagine that there will be some production time, but I am hoping to have him in-hand by my birthday!

I really have no idea.... But I'd love to find out! I imagine that it entails a pretty hefty initial purchase of stock. And I am not certain that a brick and mortar store would actually pencil out, what with most vendors going the online route these days. I should ask wiking if he has a true shop... it would be worth the trip to visit him in person! Honestly, his prices are pretty decent considering what he must pay to have some of the larger animals shipped.

I would love to hear more about your adventures as a Douglas retailer! That is incredibly cool.

I just sent wiking a message on eBay asking if he has an actual store or if he just sells online. Hey, we can hope can't we?

My adventures as a Douglas retailer weren't overly extravagant though still very memorable. Our family's church had a yearly event right before Christmas that was accompanied by a "Gallery of Gifts" where people could come and shop an assortment of vendors who sold quality items and handmade goods. My mom sold her hand crocheted baby blankets there and my sister and I jumped on board and added Douglas plush animals to the offerings at her table in the vendor hall.

Over the time that we sold, we offered many of the different dogs and cats from the 16" floppy size all the way down to the now discontinued 6" Lil' Nugget Kohairs. At one point, we even bought one of the Douglas display shelves because not all the animals we had for sale would fit on the table anymore! It was so very exciting waiting for the new shipments to come in for the event. I'd listen intently throughout the afternoons around when the boxes were to be delivered and I became so attuned, my ears could detect the sound of the UPS truck from a few blocks away. My sister and I would then unbox all the new arrivals, fluff and primp their fur, then tie Christmas ribbons around their necks in preparation of them going off to their new homes.

We did this for a good few years and watching both children's and adults' eyes light up when they caught sight of all the animals on display never got old. One of my favorite moments was when a little girl, maybe 5 or 6, found Kipper the Airedale Terrier on the table and instantly fell for him. Her mom gently took him away from her daughter saying that it was too much and they couldn't get it, but then later on towards the end of the day, a dad rushed up to the table and bought Kipper saying that his wife sent him to pick up the dog as a special Christmas present for their daughter. I still get warm fuzzies when I remember that story!
