Never really watched this show, but I always thought that she was a good foil to the main character, whose good nature later grew exaggerated to the point of ridiculous perfection.

The Japanese have a word for women of sugar-and-fire personalities, tsundere. Done well, they can be some of the best characters in fiction.

In Hey Arnold!, the one episode I always remember is when they go and see George Bizet's Carmen. As a lover of opera, I felt quite impressed at how well they adapted different pieces of music to match the action on screen.

Haha, yeah, she got a knack of craziness to her that made her character just perfect

Ahh, I still have to re-watch that one. I recently began searching for Hey Arnold! episodes in Youtube just for the sake of nostalgia, and boy, I remember it was a good show but now that I've grown up I could appreciate so many more details about this cartoon... as a kid I never really got them until now. If you ever get the time to do so, search for HA! episodes. That show had such deepness to it it's amazing, you don't usually find that in a cartoon

Thank you very much for your kind comment my friend, I had missed you

Actually, I meant that Arnold later grew into a bit of a Mary Sue, but yeah, Helga's a fine example of her brand of character. In fact, this site even uses her as a page quote: [link]

Although most prime tsundere are female (Master Tigress, Hermione Granger, Adora Belle Dearheart), there are some good male examples (Han Solo, Edward Rochester).

Ah, you're very welcome. And the Carmen episode can be found on Youtube.

Heh, you're right on that: Arnold did grow into a Mary Sue, sort of. It's like he was a nine year old zen monk xD I liked him slightly better in the first season, when he was more immature and tended to go into a lot of daydreams.

Wow, that whole tsundere thing is actually a full concept, eh? I hadn't noticed before, but it is used for a lot of (mostly) female chacacters in fiction (Hehee! Han solo!). They make interesting characters when well done.

Ahaha, I just finished watching it. I actually recalled having watched it before, that "sword" fight kicked a few childhood memories in the back of my head xD It kind of reminded me of Looney Tunes as well. Ahh, good times...

Hey Arnold was a good cartoon (or, in this case, Nicktoon XD). Heck, the show was on during Nickelodeon's golden age, with their Nicktoons as their cornerstone. Sadly, the network has gone downhill to mediocridy. Oh well, maybe their new show, The Legend of Korra, could be the start of their revival.

Ahaha, yeah, not just cartoons but Nicktoons! xD Man, that's so true, I remember wen I would come back home from school I could turn the TV on and watch whatever cartoon was on. I wish they would go back to those times...

Legend of Korra? Hmm, I think I've heard that name, but I never really knew what that was about, maybe I'll have to check it out later.

The Legend of Korra is a spinoff series based on Avatar: The Last Airbender. It takes place 70 years after the events of Avatar, where a teenage girl named Korra is the new Avatar. The villains are a group of radicals called the Equalists, where their goal is to rid the world of benders.

The fact that it is a spinoff of Avatar makes me think that it may be the show that could start the revival of Nickelodeon. I hope it does, because much of their shows today are just awful.

P.S. Maybe the reason you haven't heard of The Legend of Korra is because the show premiered a few weeks ago. I've seen the first few episodes, and so far so good. C:

Aaah, I see. Avatar was a good show as well, from the little stuff I got to watch (I didn't have cable TV back then and I still don't. Plus I get lazy to look for stuff on YT )

Yeah, today's shows ond Disney Channel, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network aren't just the same :/ It's sad to see that their golden years have gone by, but hopefully they will make better stuff soon. Like Korra, from what you said

If this was like 5-6 years ago, I would've agreed with you on all three networks. But today, not so much. I'm not so sure about Disney Channel, since the last time I watched a show on it, it was Lilo and Stitch: The Series, and that was in 2006. However, they have been showing more of their theater-released movies, such as Beauty and The Beast and Aladdin, than they did a few years ago.

Of the three, I think Cartoon Network is doing the best today. While they still have some stupid shows, they also have some good shows. In fact, the shows I like that are on Cartoon Network are Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Thundercats (a reboot to the original), and Total Drama Series.

It's one of the best shows I could have watched as a kid. Looking back on it, I realized of the deepness the creators put into the characters (without making them soap-opera like), and enjoyed the humor even more than I did as a kid. It was a nice experience to remember it all

Thanks! Glady you liked it!

That's that thing with all the shows I watched when I was younger, you don't truly get the show until you go back an watch it. I love going back and watching the Hey Arnold movie I recorded on tape, it really is a good movie.

I know right? I remember seeing the movie advertised in cinemas when I was a kid, yet I never got to watch it since Hey Arnold wasn't really one of my favorite cartoons back then. How I wish I had watched it, though. Now I 'll have to see if it's on Youtube or somewhere

Classic! Gah I love these two

I love the style in this, all crayon-y... it brings out the childhood nostalgia when the show was on Nick.
