Description Just a quick doodle in response to JKR's latest...shall we say thought vomit?  Hah.  But seriously, I object.  It's fine to have changes of mind, but I don't think she should be telling the world she regrets something so fundamental to the books--not to mention a couple beloved by so many.  You're breaking hearts, JK!  I won't deny that I always joked about preferring the Harry/Hermione ship, mainly because they were my favorite characters, but come on.  It's Hermione and Ron 4eva.  I recently read a blurb from Emma Watson about Hermione and Ron, and she sums it up nicely: "I approved of [Ron] for Hermione.  I think they are yin and yang.  They are the true meaning of two hearts that make a whole, and they balance each other.  They're so wrong for each other, but so right."

Ron and Hermione belong, individually to JKR.

HEAR HEAR~

At least the actors still support romione (which means they're not mindlessly agreeing with Her)

and the books & epilogue (and rose & hugo) will outlive the stupid interview anyway.

Lovely! And in the end it was just the press exaggerating things to sell, as usual...

I think one of the most original things about the books is that the main male character did not end up with the main female character. It really gave it a more realistic outlook that separated it a tad from being a 'kids book' (where most kids book have cliche roles for each character) and made us appreciate the secondary characters just as much as we did the main ones.

Personally, I'm not even a huge fan of Ron and Hermione, BUT I think if JK had any regrets, she should have kept it to herself. There is nothing she could do about it now, she already finished the books so its not like she could correct her "mistake" in the next book or something. All she's doing is discrediting all of the emotional value some of her fans put into her books.
If this whole thing was just an attempt to call the spotlight back on her books/work/herself, then she did not do it well.

That is a very good point, especially how you can see the movies try in vain to enforce that very trope.

Romione is safe (if anything she didn't supported harry/hermione getting together, because we all know harry/ginny is her favorite)

but yeah, Ron was treated very poorly. >

I once liked the idea of Harry and Hermione together, like while I read CoS and PoA for the first time... but then it quickly became obvious that Ron and Hermione were going to happen (and JK herself made it obvious), so I think this spouting of hers is a bit silly.  Come back down to earth, JK.  It's nice here.

But annnnnywayyyy, I love this art!  It's just the right response.  They look so happy, just as they would be and are together.  The heart is such a nice artistic addition.  And I love how Hermione is still in her Hogwarts uniform.

Hermione will wear that uniform forever!  I foreseen it.

I thought all along that Ron and Hermione were badly mismatched. They have nothing in common except Harry, and their fighting never came across to me as banter-plus-sexual-tension. The great thing about fandom, however, is that we can have different opinions, including opinions that differ from that of the author--whatever that opinion happens to be today! Don't let anyone take Romione away from you, not even JKR herself.

Limlight In reply to janach [2014-03-04 17:34:24 +0000 UTC]

Well, that's the thing--I like to stick with what an author creates.  And while I think the books will always trump what JKR says outside of them, I hate that she herself is putting something at odds with what she created, you know?  I was never and still am not crazy about Ron and Hermione (any more or less than I care about other ships), but it's what she wrote.  It's just too late to change it, which makes the whole thing dumb to bring up now.

I like to go with what the author shows in the books, rather than what she says she shows, and what she SHOWS with Ron and Hermione is a couple with almost nothing in common who snipe at each other a lot. I can see them getting together as high school students, but I find it hard to imagine the couple JKR actually shows us staying together in a happy marriage.

On the other hand, there's nothing in the Dreaded Epilogue that argues against an amicably divorced couple taking their kids to school together.

Just remember:  JKR also said she didn't think Luna and Neville would make a very good couple, then changed her mind a few months later.  I think she just enjoys throwing wank grenades among her fans. (See also:  Dumbledore is gay)

Yes, and for all these reasons I think JKR should probably just stop making "revelations" of any kind

I love this picture and agree with everything in your notes!  I never cared one way or the other about Ron and Hermione (didn't love or hate this pairing) but it was really weird for the author to make such a comment years after the series has ended!
