Description February 2010
12"x10" cotton canvas and
Atelier "Interactive" acrylic paint.

Notes: There's about four layers of paint on this, the black being the first, followed by a coat of white, and then colour. I took too long adding the second, third, and fourth, though, 'cause it proved difficult to carve back through to the beginning. I don't work with acrylics often, so it always surprises me how quickly it dries.

Working title for this was "Seasons".

I've known a few people with apnoea, it can be rather frightening. I'm honoured that you find a connection with my work.

Very interesting piece. I love the colors and how they blend together, as well as the layering technique. I don't know if i've seen that done with acrylic. What do you use to "carve" back down to the other layers? anyway I also love how this feels like a tree growing in the corner of a room, and how it could be insomnia easy

'm glad you like it. (:
I carved back through the layers using the edge of a small palette knife. and a decent amount of pressure since it was drying so quickly on me. Hah.

Acrylics piss me off. it's not the drying on the canvas that pisses me off so much, its the drying on the palette.

ANYWAYS, this is brilliant! I love the effect of cutting through the colour

I have a peel off palette. you can pull it off in sheets and stick it to windows for the light to glow through
want one? I can get you one
Its kinda cool for abstracty shit too cuz you can put the peeled off parts onto the canvas and shit.

I use the peel off for oil too but it takes longer than the acrylics ROFL.
I just dump an alkyd medium (galkyd) on the palette and spread it out and let it dry fully and peel it all off. It doesn't come off as clean as the acrylics but its still cool.

It's interesting seeing you experiment with brighter colors. Never expected to see pink in your work.

I have to say I'm really enjoying the direction you're going with "figurative abstract". I think it really tightens your style; having an identifiable object amongst your blending. Then again, I'm biased, you know I love figurative.

Beautiful work as always, good to see updates from you. Oh, and LOL SURPRISE ACRYLICS.

Thanks, Aida. an' yeah, acrylics tend to dry a bit faster than oils. Who knew? :B
