Description Kos, the leadstallion of "my" social group in Latvia.

This was behaviour often seen between stallions. The pawing was a way of showing how strong and dangerous a stallion was and conflicts were often solved like this. No fighting, just pawing and showing off. I've never observed mares doing this, only stallions.

I wasnt sure wether to put this one in scraps or not. Its not my best work but also didnt find that bad to put it away in scraps. For now it will stay here.

4B graphite pencil on bad, grainy Latvian drawing paper. I hated the paper there and hated myself for not taking my own paper and pencils to Latvia...

The shading and pose is amazing Linda! C'mon don't be so harsh with yourself . I took my drawings with me to poland and unfortunately got a few ones bedn . that sucks a lot! But anywho, I was going to say that I really like this picture and think you did a very good job on the anatomy! Looking forward to more stuff

Thank you Nadja! I hate it when stuff happens to my drawings, it happens to often that the corners get bend during the colouring proces. I always want to hit myself on the head then. I just want to turn back time then.....

Thank you!! I love shine on horses, I always try to incoorporate that in a drawing. But this was all Kos, his summercoat looked amazing. A nice dark grey, darker then the other horses, with black accents.

Nice job, even if you claim the paper the was grainy! It's looks relatively smooth to me.

LindaColijn In reply to mediocrelife [2006-07-31 09:27:09 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. But I had to edit it a bit with the computer, the scan came out horribly, because of the grainyness, lots of extra shadows on places where it should have just been white. So I had to erase all of that. That s why you cant see anymore how grainy the paper was!

He is, isnt he?! He really stole my heart. There were more beautiful stallions then he, but his character was definitely the best!

I think characters are more important than looks but having both is perfect. ^^

Man, that was a tough pose to draw and still get depth, well done!

It was, and the ref pic was pretty dark too. I shot it at a cloudy day so no good sunlight. But the drawing turned out fine, just not to happy with the face.

Thanks! Shading was a challenge, pretty dark and all. But a challenge makes drawing fun, especially when it works out!
