Description Today just felt like a good day to draw up a velociraptor ( the JP version of course).

No references, so forgive the horrible anatomical inaccuracies but it was so much fun working from childhood memories.

I hope you all enjoy!

The head is shaped a bit oddly, as could be expected with no references, and the anatomy is obviously completely wrong, but your actual artistic skill is sublime.

Yeah this is old, old, old. I sure it looks horrible now but it was fun to paint back then.

Does deviantart actually date the drawings?. I have been on this site for almost a year, and still do not know how to gauge how old something is.

Yeah, somewhere below the painting it says "©2010-2014" or something similar. So that was 4 years ago I painted this.

ah, so that is how it works, I had been wondering if that was it. That is a rather obscure way of saying it, I wonder why not just say "this thing was posted on X day of X month 2010".

Well I also know if you go to a person's gallery and hover over their image with the cursor it'll give the exact date of when it was submitted. I agree with you though, they should set it up like that on the actual picture.

Yeah, so that is another way of telling, still, it is just a major inconvenience.

madam, despite the fact the the crest shouldn't be so prominent because the skull was extremely light (not really such a matter since it maybe completely plausible, who knows) i absolutely love this, i always preferred the bare-skinned mohawked version to the feathered pansy. (looks so fragile to me) As a junior paleontologist, i gotta lean toward the pansy reality thou, anyhoo i just love this

Ys, because eagles are such pansies.

Thank you very much, although I did mention this is entirely based on Jurassic Park's velociraptors, which are totally inaccurate depictions of actual velociraptors. And then from that I was just drawing this guy from memory, which just adds to the inaccuracy. It was all good fun though, so thank you for the compliments.

Naked chickens = coolness, it seems.

Never mind it couldn't glide like real raptors probably could...

I love both versions of the velociraptor, the JP version for nostalgia and the actual velociraptor for scientific purposes. Both are fascinating in their own way to me, especially the feathers.

Niall-Larner In reply to LindseyWArt [2012-08-05 12:16:28 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I see what you mean, I just cant imagine them as feathered Turkeys with little intelligence. But they do make for interesting creatures even if they are not incredibly smart.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LindseyWArt In reply to Niall-Larner [2012-08-05 13:39:35 +0000 UTC]

Velociraptors are actually pretty smart relative to its brain size to body weight, one of the smartest dinosaurs actually. I tell this to a lot of people, but there are raptors out there like Utah raptor and Deinonychus that are equal to the size, if not bigger, than Velociraptor in Jurrasic Park. So yes, they do exist!

Niall-Larner In reply to LindseyWArt [2012-08-07 19:21:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I understand now, after I finding some extra info on Jurassic park they say (In character) that their scientists were surprised at the size and intelligence of velociraptors and that they are more relatable to the very same raptors you mentioned. XD I think it was because of the frog DNA
