As anyone who knows me will tell you, I have been a huge fan of Fantasia since I was a small child and to see it referenced in today’s art is always something I enjoy seeing.
But even with my nostalgia goggles off this picture has plenty going for it. For example, I usually give a great deal of credit to those who are able to capture the style and colouring of the source material. In terms of the character’s lower “pony half” that seems to be the case as we have a fairly faithful recreation of Twilight’s original design and colour-scheme.
As with any humanization, or even particle humanization as we have here, there is always the issue of personal interpretation, or rather “what people interpret these characters would look like if they were human”. This makes things difficult for a person writing a critique of things like this because the argument, “to each their own” always seems to shine in moments like this.
While I would never say that there was any one right way to do these characters as humans, I do feel that this version is fairly close to how I would imagine Twilight in this position,. But even if it wasn’t, I’d be happy with this take on her design.
Originality is something that this picture benefits from as I have seen few attempts to do this kind of picture, not only a centaur version of the character, but one that also seeks to act as a reference to a classic Disney film. I can safely say that that’s an original concept, at least as far as my own experience goes.
Really, the only proper thing I can say against this picture is the background. Now if the artist intended for this image to be all about the character, I’m all for that. Bu the lack of a true background or location for the character to be placed gives a sense of “dullness” to the image that I just can’t shake off. Although that’s solely my personal taste and I won’t hold it against the artist for doing so.
Overall I’d say that this is an impressive picture that, while not as detailed as some other re-interpretations of the character that I’ve see, this looks good and shows a real love for both the source material and for art.

First of all, I'd like to sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to write this critique. The fact that you spent your time and energy really thinking about this piece is an honor and compliment in itself. I view that as, 'My art was worth taking the extra time to critique it." XD
I'm so very happy that you noticed how hard I worked on making each pony look as if they have come from Fantasia itself. I really wanted to have the ponies reflect the Disney style from that era and sequence in the movie.
I thank you also for being honest about the lack of background. Really it could have gone either way. I did intend to make the centaurs the sole focus of the picture, so I didn't want to add a more detailed background in fear of it taking away from the girls. However, my boyfriend did strongly suggest that I do one. He shared your same opinion, that a background would have tied the art in together a bit better and made it more dynamic.
I do intend to create a group shot of the 6 centaurs and for that, I believe I will go with a background for that one.
Again, thank you so much!
