This time I tried to do something different and I decided to keep the text in the picture as minimum as possible.

Something about this reminds me of oldschool capcom for some reason, can't put my finger on it..regardless, nice job on the commission!

Could it be the character design? I love old school capcom, the 16bit pixel era. The backgrounds and characters were so distinctly "capcom" XD Everytime I played a game with their logo on it I new I was going for a ride.
I don't know if it was the color palette, or maybe they had the same group of artist working on them, but surely they all share a particular style that I can easily point to that era:

Are dragons the predominant species in your story, or are they the only intelligent/human like species around?

predominant, there's also humans, Animales (which are basically anthro animals) and humans born offworld who have evolved over generations on their own planets
