Another sketch thing which I will probably never colour!
And something of a story too... *ahem* Here we go.
In an alternate universe where AJ remained in the streets of Manehatten having chosen not to return to the acres. One day, over tea, she realised that she sorely despised the ponies that she was forced to encounter every day and so she left and headed out onto the streets with the sole aim of showing them all just what the country filly could do. It is there that she met Rarity, both of them lacking cutiemarks for reasons unknown and it's whilst they're talking one day, some time after becoming friends and they're strolling through the dark of night that they're set upon by a trio of young and vicious thugs.
They both put up a fierce struggle, Rarity taking the worst of the damage including a blow to the head. The young mare severely unequipped for such a fight and far more delicate than her earth pony friend, and it's only by the intervention of the Manehatten guard that they're left to live another day.
Applejack, bitter and furious at the state of her friend, promises Rarity that she'll never let anypony lay a hoof on her again but Rarity is still left handicapped with an incurable 'glitch' from the blow to the head, her magic vanishing entirely on occasion and leaving her struggling. Applejack teaches her the earth pony way of doing things and Rarity steadily improves, teaching herself to sew with her hooves to practice control and dexterity.
It is whilst Rarity is sewing that Applejack often slips away, picking fights without Rarity around to stop her, teaching herself to fight, learning from her mistakes and it's when she encounters the three thugs again in her late teens that she earns her cutie mark for absolutely levelling the lot of them.
She earns a reputation and despite Rarity's initial horror when she sees the mark (not to mention the blood), she decides that she's going to work with Applejack to take control of the Manehatten underground.
It is her self-taught skill in sewing which, a short while later, she discovers is transferable to a blade. She only uses the talent once in order to protect Applejack from a very angry gang leader who wasn't too pleased about Applejack pummelling his second in command, and younger brother, straight into the dirt. Not to mention stealing all his diamonds.
The two of them gain a following and steadily take over the backstreets of Manehatten, Rarity's cunning mind allowing them to plan a dozen steps ahead and earning her the title of 'Lady Rarity' amongst their followers.
She crafts Applejack a pair of horseshoes for her 20th birthday and they take to the streets again, the Lady and her Fidus Achates, to bring Manehatten into a new age dominated by the lower class...

... Jeez, that came out long. Sorry about that. I got carried away.
Also, I know Rarity's horn should be shorter but I'm too lazy to fix it. May scrap this later though.
