A moving van pulled up in front of the house next door. Brooke just “happened” to be sitting out on her veranda, partaking of her morning coffee, while the moving men went about their duties. When they had departed an hour or so later, she had concluded from the furniture that her new neighbour was a woman and single, also probably young like Brooke.
The house next door had been emptied for some time, which had made this part of town seem very solitary. The two houses were not that far away from the town centre, it was just that they were located at the end of the street, around a bend and behind a slight rise.
As the van drove away, Brooke assumed that the show was over and began getting ready to go inside, when another truck pulled up next door.
