Introducing Dolly and Donny Otter, the Otter twins. They are the newest denizens of my Willow Valley world. Dolly has a heart of gold and is friends with everybody, but she tends to be somewhat ditzy. Donny is the serious one, and is often called upon to help defend the valley and its inhabitants as a member of the "Guardians". Neither twin is afraid of work, and are willing to help out whenever called upon. But being otters they'd really rather play.
Most of the critters in Willow Valley play musical instruments or sing. Donny plays trumpet, and Dolly is a singer. But hey - you can't practice all the time, can you?
Here, Donny is at the pond, hoping to catch a fat fish for the community's midsummer solstice feast. He could dive in and catch one as otters normally do but that would be too much like work. This is more fun! Besides, the summer sun feels good in the fur. Maybe he'll even get a chance for a nap.
Dolly has decided that he needs to be "supervised", and she has come down to keep an eye on him. She says she "just wants to see what he's up to". Her brother knows her better than that. No nap for you, Donny!

I have spent an average of six hours a day for the last two weeks on these two together, after redrawing them both together from scratch. I keep finding things I don't like and going back to redraw the part. Thank God for a digital pad and laptop so erasures can be easily made. But I'm going to call it quits on this image. I want to move on to something else. Maybe I'll come back and revisit it after I have more practice.
