Very intriguing ... I wonder not only what he did, but the drawing implies a whole range of not-normal circumstances.

To be whipped so hard that your rear starts seeping blood is NOT normal. I've only known personally of it happening at college as a very rough initiation ceremony for pledges at a certain non-Greek fraternity(this was many years ago - don't know if they do it still) that shall remain nameless.

Unless my perspective is askew, the subject looks to be long past the age when most kids are still spanked for transgressions, much less made to stand in the corner, much less nude! This raises a whole host of questions that go far beyond the immediate scope of what he did.

Namely, who did this to him? His parent or guardian (assuming he still lives at home)? A sibling who somehow has authority over him? Another relative? If he's no longer at home, then maybe his spouse or significant other (now THAT would be a relationship with a very interesting power dynamic, to say the least).

Also, WHY does he put up with it? He's old enough to know how to dial 911, to know about about Child Protective Services, et cetera and so on. If he's of age, why not just LEAVE?

Then again, it may just be a random piece of artwork with no intrinsic meaning whatsoever. The raw emotion, visceral impact, and unanswered implied questions leave this art lover longing for more, which is the goal of many artists.
