I did this as a "get motivated" painting. Sometimes I get bogged down with lengthy paintings and feel like i will never finish, so I did a quicky for that instant gratification sort of feeling. hopefully to get my ass in gear and get to work. This is a redo of a redo - which has been redrawn more times than painted, and goes all the way back to 2004.

I redid the original in 2009, and here we are again. Its been a long time since i've really painted "fairies" and it was actually really enjoyable to do it again. I really have a whole folder of redrawings of old paintings that I intend to do, if I ever get around to it. this was the simplest of them all, so I went with it.

there are very few paintings ive redone more than once, if any?

Fun background story. I was in my senior year in college when I did the first one, and I had a free period right before lunch. I would go into the library, listen to music, and draw in my sketchbook. I got the inspiration for this looking at a book with several images of leaves- an identification guide i suppose. I realized if you split a leaf in half, it makes a neat fairy wing. "Stranger Than Your Sympathy" was playing on my headphones.

for a long time I had no idea what to do with backgrounds, so I often left them blank with some color or texture. The second one I had been trying really hard to incorporate SOME kind of background, and I have the hang of it now, lol. Always fun to see how styles develop and change. This is my progress over a 10 year period. I can only hope that I will improved equally as much 10 years from now.
